🌴 A little Funchal travel tip…

If you’re visiting Madeira, don’t just rush from one attraction to the next. Take your time and enjoy Funchal. 💛

Wander through the colourful Old Town, look for the beautiful painted doors, take the cable car up to Monte, enjoy the views over the Atlantic — and of course, taste some local Madeira food and wine. 🍷🌺

Funchal is one of those places where the little moments often become your favourite memories. ✨

I never get tired of the Douro River. 💚

Every time I sail through the Douro Valley, there’s something that makes me slow down, take a deep breath and simply enjoy the view. The steep vineyards, the little quintas and the river quietly winding its way through the landscape. 🍇💙

It’s one of those places in Portugal I always look forward to returning to. 🇵🇹✨

An Evening on the Douro 🌅

There is something truly special about enjoying dinner while the Douro River gently flows past your window.

The table is set, the glasses are ready, and the last rays of the sun are dancing across the water. Outside, the landscape slowly changes colour as we continue our journey through the Douro Valley.

Moments like this are what make a Douro River cruise so much more than just a journey.

It’s pure enjoyment. ❤️

A Morning to Remember on the Douro 🌅💙

There’s something truly magical about waking up on the Douro River.

As the morning light slowly reaches the hills and vineyards around Peso da Régua, the river is calm, the air is fresh, and everything feels wonderfully peaceful.

Sitting on deck with a coffee, watching the landscape unfold as the ship gently glides along the Douro… this is one of those moments when you simply stop, breathe, and enjoy.

✨ No rush.
✨ No noise.
✨ Just the beauty of Portugal.

A perfect morning during our Douro River cruise — and a beautiful reminder that sometimes the journey itself is the destination. 🇵🇹❤️

🇬🇧 A Taste of Fafe – Vitela Assada à Moda de Fafe 🇵🇹

If you’re travelling through Northern Portugal and love authentic Portuguese food, Fafe is a place worth putting on your list.

I recently visited Fafe and, of course, I had to try the town’s famous speciality: Vitela Assada à Moda de Fafe – tender, oven-roasted veal served with golden potatoes. 🥩🥔

But the meal started long before the main course…

The table was soon filled with a wonderful selection of Portuguese starters and small dishes: fried little fish, savoury fritters, olives, lupin beans, pickled onions, bread and fresh vegetables. Exactly the kind of meal where you slowly taste your way through Portugal. ❤️

And then came the main course…

Vitela Assada à Moda de Fafe is a traditional dish that Fafe is particularly famous for. The veal is slowly roasted until tender and full of flavour, while the potatoes soak up all those delicious juices.

It may not be the most sophisticated of dishes – and that is precisely its charm.

It’s Portuguese food at its best: rustic, generous and full of tradition. 🇵🇹

🌿🍇 A Little Break from Life on the Road…

Between two tours, I’ve taken a little mini-break in Gouveia, in the Serra da Estrela.

And where better to spend a few days than at my mother-in-law’s house? ❤️

There’s certainly no need for a supermarket or farmers’ market here.

The garden is absolutely overflowing with fruit and vegetables right now!

🍇 Grapes
🍎 Apples
🍐 Pears
🌰 Almonds
🍑 Peaches
💛 Quinces
🫒 Olives
🥝 Kiwis

And that’s just some of what is growing here.

There is actually so much fruit that we simply can’t eat it all. Some is given away, some is saved for later – and sadly, quite a lot ends up falling from the trees. 😢

It feels almost wrong when you think about how much work goes into growing all this abundance.

But for now, I’m simply enjoying the colours, the scents and the wonderful feeling of being able to walk into the garden and pick something fresh. 🌿

This is a very different side of Portugal from the one I experience when I’m working and showing guests around.

A few days of family, gardens, fresh fruit – and a slower pace of life. ❤️

And of course, this little mini-break won’t last forever…

Soon it will be time for the next tour. 🇵🇹

Have you ever eaten at a tasca? 🇵🇹🍷

One of the best ways to experience the real Portugal is by visiting a tasca.

A tasca is a small, traditional Portuguese restaurant or café where the food is simple, homemade, and full of flavour. These aren’t fancy tourist restaurants—they’re the places where locals gather to enjoy a good meal, a glass of house wine, and great conversation.

Most tascas offer a “prato do dia” (dish of the day), which changes daily. Expect generous portions, affordable prices, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel like part of the family.

💜 P**a’s tip: If you see a small restaurant packed with local people at lunchtime, you’ve probably found a great tasca. That’s where some of Portugal’s best food is served!

🇵🇹 Portugal Travel Tip

The biggest mistake tourists make in Portugal?

Trying to see everything in one trip.

Portugal isn’t a destination to rush through—it’s a country to slow down and truly experience.

Take time to linger over a morning bica, wander through quiet side streets, watch the sunset from a hidden viewpoint, and enjoy long lunches without checking the clock.

The most memorable moments are rarely the ones on your itinerary.

✨ Slow down. Portugal will reward you for it.

Have you ever returned from a holiday wishing you’d spent less time rushing and more time enjoying the moment?

🍇 P**a Tries: Chicken Piri-Piri! 🌶️🍗

If there’s one Portuguese dish you simply have to try, it’s Chicken Piri-Piri.

Marinated with garlic, olive oil, lemon and spicy piri-piri peppers, then grilled until perfectly smoky and juicy—it’s simple, authentic and absolutely delicious.

⭐ P**a’s Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🌶️ Spice level: Medium to Hot (depending on the restaurant!)

Have you tried Portuguese Chicken Piri-Piri? Would you order it again?
