Meet Álvaro 😄

The youngest member of the Algarviews team, and proof that age has very little to do with experience.

Born in Portimão and raised in Porches, he studied Computer Science before realising that life behind a screen could never compete with life on the ocean. He started working with kayaks at Praia da Senhora da Rocha while he was still young, and he’s never looked back!

Around here, we call him our influencer 📸 If you’ve ever wondered who’s filming those epic moments during the tour, there’s a good chance it was Álvaro behind the camera, somehow finding the perfect angle without anyone even noticing 🤭

When he’s not paddling along the Algarve coast, you’ll probably find him on his motorbike, exploring the region one road at a time. Speed, adventure and a little adrenaline have always been part of who he is. Whether it’s two wheels on the road or a kayak on the sea, he simply loves the journey!

For someone so young, his work ethic inspires all of us. He’s always the first to offer a hand, the last to complain, and somehow always has the energy for one more tour 💪🏼

And if you happen to join one of our Chinese tours, chances are you’ll meet him there too. Jack’s trusted sidekick, always ready to jump in wherever he’s needed 🤩

Meet Ricardo!

Diogo’s brother and, quite possibly, the most social person you’ll ever meet.

During the school year, he teaches children. The moment summer begins, he swaps the classroom for a kayak and spends his days doing what he loves most—meeting new people and sharing the Algarve from the water 🌊

He grew up surfing, studied Marine Biology, and spent time living in both Spain and Germany. These days, when he’s not guiding tours, you’ll probably find him at Salivitae, the company he founded, where he grows samphire with the same care and passion he brings to everything he does 😊

Ricardo has the rare gift of making everyone around him feel welcome. He’s the kind of person who genuinely wants everyone to have the best day possible, and nothing makes him happier than seeing people leave the beach smiling 😁

Some people recharge by slowing down. Ricardo recharges by making other people smile. The happier people are when they leave the beach, the more energy he seems to have. Three tours in a row? No problem. We’ve honestly never seen him run out of it 🤷🏽‍♂️

Outside of work, there’s one thing you can always count on: if you’re going anywhere with Ricardo, don’t expect to arrive on time. He has an incredible talent for bumping into people he knows… and if he doesn’t know them yet, there’s a good chance he will by the end of the conversation. It’s one of the many reasons everyone seems to know him!

If you’re looking for a great place to eat, he’s also your person. Ricardo loves good food almost as much as he loves sharing it, and he’s always ready with a restaurant recommendation—or an entire list of them. Don’t leave without asking him where to eat 🥘 Trust us on this one.

Meet Jack!

The other co-founder of Algarviews, and the only guide in the Algarve leading kayak tours in Chinese 🇨🇳

Originally from China, Portugal has been his home for over 15 years. Somewhere along the way, he discovered kayaking… and never looked back!

Jack is one of those genuinely kind people who loves sharing—whether it’s a hidden corner of the coastline, a new perspective on life, or a homemade meal. If he cooks for you, you’re already part of the family 🩵

A follower of Buddha and a true free spirit, he feels most at home surrounded by the ocean and nature. Fishing, swimming, exploring… if it happens outdoors, he’s probably smiling 😌

He’s also the kind of person who makes you laugh without even trying. And somehow, before you know it, he’s convinced you to climb a cliff or step outside your comfort zone, cheering you on the whole way 😊

His favourite place isn’t just out at sea—it’s around a table full of people, sharing food, stories, and the kind of conversations that leave everyone feeling a little lighter than when they arrived.

And if paddling isn’t quite your thing, don’t worry. He’ll happily tow the kayaks… he’s probably the most powerful engine on this stretch of coast 💪🏼

Meet Diogo 😄

One of the founders of Algarviews! 🌊

Born and raised between the ocean and the Algarve’s cliffs, he grew up spending more time in the water than on land.

He loves learning and, even more, sharing what he knows.

He’s the kind of person who sees a bird flying by and casually starts explaining how its behaviour has changed over the years and what that tells us about the ecosystem. Nobody asked 🤷🏽‍♂️ But somehow, everyone ends up listening 🤩

Even though he has a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, living away from the sea was never an option. Becoming a nature/kayak guide just made sense!

He believes the ocean has a special way of helping us switch off, leave everyday worries behind, and reconnect with the freedom of simply being ourselves 😌
But his favourite moments are when everything suddenly clicks—when a few seemingly random facts come together and someone realises that, in nature, everything is connected!

Point at a rock, and there’s a good chance you’ll leave with a story or a fun fact you never knew you wanted to hear.

You’ll usually find him exploring, laughing, or climbing the cliffs… mostly so he can jump straight back into the water 😆
