Conhecida também como Terreiro do Paço, foi aqui que, durante séculos, funcionou o centro do poder em Portugal, com o Palácio Real à beira do rio Tejo. Tudo mudou com o devastador Terremoto de Lisboa de 1755, que destruiu grande parte da cidade.

A reconstrução liderada pelo Marquês de Pombal deu origem à praça que vemos hoje: elegante, simétrica e aberta ao rio — um símbolo da modernidade urbana da época.

No centro, a imponente estátua de Dom José I relembra a força e a resiliência de um país que se reinventou.

Hoje, a Praça do Comércio é o ponto de encontro entre história, cultura e vida contemporânea. É aqui que Lisboa recebe o mundo — e onde cada visitante começa a escrever a sua própria história.

The Praça do Comércio is far more than a postcard — it’s the historic heart of Lisbon.

Also known as Terreiro do Paço, this square was once the center of royal power, home to the Royal Palace by the Tagus River. Everything changed after the devastating 1755 Lisbon Earthquake, which destroyed much of the city.

The reconstruction, led by the Marquis of Pombal, created the square we see today: elegant, symmetrical, and open to the river — a symbol of modern urban planning.

At its center stands the impressive statue of King José I, representing the resilience and transformation of a nation.

Today, Praça do Comércio is where history, culture, and modern life come together — a place where Lisbon welcomes the world, and where every journey begins.

🇵🇹 Convento dos Capuchos: Onde o Silêncio se Transforma em Música
No topo da arriba da Caparica, o Convento de Nossa Senhora da Piedade (mais conhecido como Convento dos Capuchos) guarda séculos de histórias entre os seus muros caiados. Fundado no século XVI para frades franciscanos que procuravam a paz e o isolamento, o edifício sobreviveu ao Terramoto de 1755 e à extinção das ordens religiosas, chegando a estar em ruínas antes de ser recuperado pela Câmara Municipal de Almada.
Curiosidades:
O Miradouro: A vista sobre a Costa da Caparica e o Atlântico é considerada uma das mais bonitas da região.
Vida Austera: Originalmente, os frades viviam sob regras de extrema pobreza, o que se reflete na arquitetura simples e despojada do convento.
O Festival dos Capuchos 2026
Amanhã, 11 de abril, o silêncio dá lugar às notas musicais com a abertura oficial do Festival de Música dos Capuchos. O evento de lançamento acontece às 17h30, com um concerto do diretor artístico Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro e do Juventus Ensemble. Sob o tema "Amores & Humores", o festival principal decorrerá de 23 de maio a 24 de junho. Ingresso para abertura já estão esgotados.

Perched atop the Caparica cliffs, the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Piedade (better known as Convento dos Capuchos) holds centuries of history within its whitewashed walls. Founded in the 16th century for Franciscan friars seeking peace and isolation, the building survived the 1755 Earthquake and the extinction of religious orders, falling into ruin before being restored by the Almada Municipality.

The Viewpoint: The vista overlooking Costa da Caparica and the Atlantic is considered one of the most beautiful in the region.
Austerity: Originally, the friars lived under rules of extreme poverty, reflected in the convent's simple and stripped-back architecture.
Capuchos Festival 2026
Tomorrow, April 11th, silence yields to musical notes with the official opening of the Capuchos Music Festival. The launch event starts at 5:30 PM, featuring a concert by artistic director Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro and the Juventus Ensemble. Under the theme "Amores & Humores," the main festival will run from May 23rd to June 24th.
