In Lisbon, some flavours carry stories.

Since 1837, the famous 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞́𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐞́𝐦 have been crafted from a closely guarded recipe, known only to a select few master pastry chefs.

Inside the so-called “𝑆𝑒𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑡 𝑊𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑝”, tradition and precision come together in a process preserved across generations, protected with the utmost care over time.

More than a pastry, it is a ritual to be experienced: the warm aroma, the delicate texture, the hint of cinnamon.

Legend has it that in 1182, D. Fuas Roupinho was chasing a deer through the thick fog that covered the cliffs of Nazaré.

Unaware of the danger ahead, he rode towards the edge, until his horse stopped abruptly at the brink of the abyss.

It is believed that the Virgin Mary intervened, saving the knight from a fatal fall.
In gratitude, a small chapel was built on that very spot, where history and faith can still be felt today.

Sem perceber o perigo, aproximou-se do precipício, até que o seu cavalo parou abruptamente à beira do abismo.

Acredita-se que foi a intervenção da Virgem Maria que salvou o cavaleiro de uma queda fatal.

Em sinal de gratidão, foi erguida uma pequena ermida naquele local, onde ainda hoje se sente o peso da história e da fé.

On International Women's Day, we remember that Portugal’s history was also written by women.

Óbidos is known as the “Town of the Queens”, and for good reason.

Over the centuries, it became part of the House of the Queens, a royal estate traditionally granted to the consorts of the Portuguese Crown. Within its walls, influential women exercised power, promoted social initiatives and left a legacy that transcends generations.

Remarkable figures such as Queen Saint Isabel, a symbol of diplomacy and compassion; Queen Leonor, whose social vision led to the foundation of the Misericórdias charitable institutions; and Queen Catherine of Austria, a regent during one of the most demanding periods of the Portuguese monarchy, all passed through these very streets.

More than a royal wedding gift, Óbidos became a place of influence, leadership and enduring female legacy.

On this International Women’s Day, we honour those women who shaped the past, and celebrate all the women who continue to transform the present.

Ao longo dos séculos, integrou a Casa das Rainhas, fazendo parte do património atribuído às consortes da Coroa portuguesa. Aqui, mulheres influentes exerceram poder, promoveram obras sociais e deixaram um legado que ultrapassa gerações.

Por estas muralhas passaram figuras marcantes como a Rainha Santa Isabel, símbolo de diplomacia e humanidade; D. Leonor, cuja visão social deu origem às Misericórdias; e D. Catarina de Áustria, regente num dos períodos mais exigentes da nossa monarquia.

Mais do que um presente de casamento, Óbidos foi palco de influência, decisão e legado feminino.

Neste Dia da Mulher, recordamos essas figuras que marcaram o passado, e celebramos todas as mulheres que continuam a transformar o presente.
