TEA não significa Transporte de Ervas Aromáticas. 🫖

Já ouviste isto? "Tea vem de Transporte de Ervas Aromáticas." Soa bem. Faz sentido. E é completamente falso.

A palavra inglesa "tea" vem do dialeto chinês Min, falado na região do porto de Amoy (Xiamen), de onde o chá era exportado para a Holanda e depois para Inglaterra. Derivou de formas como "té" ou "teh."

Aliás, em português dizemos "chá", que vem de outra variante chinesa, "cha" (cantonês), porque os portugueses chegaram à China por Macau e Cantão, não por Xiamen.

Os holandeses e ingleses chegaram por outro porto, ouviram outra pronúncia, e ficou "tea."

Dois caminhos. Duas palavras. Zero acrónimos.
