Here, an old building with elegant architectural details rises above a burst of colour, street art and everyday neighbourhood life. It feels unexpected, slightly chaotic and completely Bucharest.

This is the kind of place you might pass without planning to stop, then suddenly notice the contrast: the old façade above, the vivid colours below, and a neighbourhood telling its own story in the middle of it all.

Blue sky, drifting clouds and a city that looks softer from above.

Bucharest is not always the city people imagine from traffic, concrete and crowded boulevards. Sometimes, from the right angle, it becomes a mix of apartment blocks, tram lines, trees, rooftops and long strips of green running between neighbourhoods.

It is not a perfect city. Not always organised, not always polished, not always easy to explain.

For one day, Calea Victoriei became a small open-air museum of Romanian automotive nostalgia.

Classic Oltcit cars lined the street on Saturday, bringing back memories of a very different Bucharest: family drives, compact city cars, communist-era design and a model that many Romanians still recognise instantly.

For some, it was nostalgia. For others, a chance to discover a piece of Romania’s car history in the middle of the city.

WishFest 2026: When Thousands of Wishes Light Up Titan Lake

Every summer, one of Bucharest's most magical evenings returns to Titan Park.

On June 20–21, thousands of floating lanterns will once again illuminate Titan Lake as WishFest brings together light, music, emotions and unforgettable summer moments in one of the city's most beloved parks.

Inspired by Asian lantern traditions, the festival invites visitors to write down their wishes, light a lantern and watch it drift across the water alongside thousands of others. As darkness falls, the lake transforms into a sea of light, creating one of the most spectacular sights of the Bucharest summer.

Live music, food, creative activities and a unique atmosphere make WishFest one of the city's most anticipated outdoor events.

Some festivals are about entertainment.

Free Boat Rides on Dâmbovița River

The rides are organised as pop-up weekend events under the Dâmbovița Apă Dulce - Dâmbovița Fresh Water programme. Recent editions have been free and open to the public, usually limited by the number of available places.

The programme uses temporary docks, canoes, kayaks and small boats to offer people a different relationship with the river and the surrounding city.

Most people walking through the streets near Bucharest's Old Town never notice them.

A fire escape climbing an old building. And along the stairs, a series of glowing messages left for whoever decides to look up.

"If someone makes you happy, make them happier."
"I love the way you are when I am with you."

Maybe they were installed as art.
Maybe they were meant for someone.
Or maybe they are simply there to make strangers smile.

Either way, they transform an ordinary corner of Bucharest into something else: a place where a passing glance can feel like the beginning of a love story.
