Stones at the entrance of Riba Cave. The rock was usually slippery on wet days. On the roof upwards there is another chamber and people rarely reach this place due to its height and location. Sometimes we can see betels making their nests on this chamber.

SIDE VIEW OF ONE LONGEST ROCKS AT RIBA CAVE.
----
Some village historians articulated that the initial formation of this stone was the remains of a standing man. They said the individual was dead and the rocks were growing on him. The rock for the last 50 years has been increasingly large. It was one of the finest ionic rocks in the Riba Cave.

LIME STONES IN RIBA CAVE.
-----------
Riba Cave has a lot of limestone layers in several tunnels. The limestones are growing every year. The Limestone caves are formed within the rocks that are made up of limestone. A peculiar fact about limestone is that, it cannot be dissolved in water, except rainwater. This is because rainwater absorbs carbon dioxide and thus becomes acidic. Rainwater therefore dissolves calcium carbonate and turns it into a calcium bicarbonate solution. All the cubicles of the Riba cave have different layers of limestone, making it unique and beautiful.

There were also remnants of some humans found in the cave 50-100 years ago. The rock in which this boy was standing has a chamber (behind) which, has the place where these human remains are found. Some village historians have accounts related to these remains. It's unfortunate that the human remains are slowly decomposing. It is interesting to note that the cave's current biodiversity is also threatened by the growth of human activities. Conservation efforts are a pressing need to preserve Riba Cave. The patrimony of the Riba cave remains silent, though, was one of the unique places to visit in Malaita.

This is the entrance to the large cave. As people start making noises, bats and betels will start moving around and making sounds inside their chambers. Visitors typically pause here before heading to the main cave. At night, a huge bunch of bats goes outside in search for food and come back in the morning. In this photo, village boys were visiting the cave as part of their leisure activities outside the village. The fragrant smell of the surrounding vegetation makes the place with an authentic atmosphere. There's enough light here to take memorial photos in Riba Cave. Please bring your cameras to take as many photos as you can.

The left intersection leading eastward through the large cave. This sharp rocks between the tunnels was an admirable place for small black beetles. They make their nests and reproduce at their roots. As you walk through these places make sure you watched your head and your footsteps. Below the spot was muddy and wet. Visitors are advised to watch their feet as some stones here are very slippery.

The interior of the first cave that descends toward the main cave. Behind this person was where they would typically attach a ladder. This sometimes becomes slippery and is recommended to use flashlights on the steps of the ladder before descending. This tunnel was very narrow as sometimes you will be hit with the flying beetles (Nangananga or smaller flying foxes. In this tunnel you can begin to feel the fresh breeze from the main cave coming through. The entrance of main cave lies about 50 meters in front.
