Did you know Mee Siam isn’t actually from Thailand? 🤔 For this month's Uncle Recommends, we’re highlighting a hidden hawker gem that nails the classic taste. (Slurps!) Savour gravy loaded with tamarind and fermented soybean (taucheo), topped with crispy tau pok (beancurd), chives, and a kickin' sambal egg. So, have you tried Mee Siam?

Things we do in Singapore for a "life upgrade"! Join us to ring the bell: https://bit.ly/OB-tours

Set in the heart of our Central Business District is Thian Hock Keng Temple (天福宫), Singapore’s oldest Hokkien temple. Here, you will find an interactive wishing well featuring six distinct blessing bells. Yes, this is what locals do.

The ritual is simple: toss a coin into the well, then ring the bell for the specific blessing you need. Flourishing wealth, good health, or a blissful marriage, anyone? 🤫

This is definitely one of the most unique cultural spots to visit in Telok Ayer! Which blessing bell are you ringing first? 👇

📍 Location: Thian Hock Keng Temple, 158 Telok Ayer St, Singapore 068613
🚇 Nearest MRT: Telok Ayer (DT18) / Tanjong Pagar (EW15)

Did you know this legendary late-night dish was actually INVENTED right here in Singapore? 🇸🇬

While everyone talks about Hainanese Chicken Rice or Chili Crab for National Day, true local foodies know Sup Tulang Merah (Red Mutton Bone Soup) is one of our proudest homegrown creations.

Back in the 1950s, the late Abdul Kadir started serving mutton bones drenched in a rich, sweet-and-spicy crimson gravy along Jalan Sultan, creating this messy yet most satisfying dish! Haven't tried it? Go, celebrate Singapore’s hawker heritage with a proper local feast this August!

What makes 🇸🇬 Singapore?

Ask a local, and it’s definitely more than the iconic landmarks. It’s actually how everything and everyone comes together, the familiar buzz of the hawker center, and finding heartwarming moments like this right in our everyday neighbourhoods.

This year, we’re celebrating 61 years of this little red dot we’re proud to call home! To our local community: Happy National Day! 🎉

To everyone visiting our island: we can’t wait to take you beyond the postcards and show you the hidden stories, rich heritage, and offbeat spots that make this place truly special 🫶 https://bit.ly/OB-tours
