Located at the heart of Jalan Besar, Swee Choon (.sg) is one of Singapore’s oldest tim sum restaurants, that is said to have 40 years of heritage. It is also one of our favourite supper spots as it opens to from 6pm to 6am daily (except on Tuesdays). Don’t be too alarmed by the perpetual long queue outside the restaurant, as they have a efficient SMS queuing system 📱which notifies you promptly when your turn is near.
Dim sum is known for ordering a variety of dishes so that everybody can share 🥢 and here are our 2 favourite items which we ordered:
1. Prawns and Banana fritter (S$2.80). Combining prawns and bananas might sound weird, but it was a surprisingly delicious. The bananas 🍌lend a sweetness to the prawns 🍤 that oddly works so well together, it’s definitely a must order! 👍🏻
2. Swee Choon Mee Suah Kueh [Fried Vermicelli Cake] (S$2.00). This is one of Swee Choon’s signature dishes, which comprised of Swee Choon’s signature carrot kueh with Mee Suah mounted on top before being deep fried. This pairing lends a very multi-dimensional taste to the softness of the carrot kueh 🥕
The variety of dim sum served here is amazing, as they even do serve sze char dishes. There are definitely hits and misses but if you craving for tim sum at night that won’t put a hole in your wallet 👛, Swee Choon is definitely the place to go!
