Haze in Singapore? Don’t cancel the day just yet.
If you’re visiting Singapore during a hazy period, the skyline may look different and long outdoor walks may need a rethink, but there’s still plenty you can do.

Check the current air quality, shorten outdoor activities when necessary, and keep a few indoor options in your back pocket.

My rule is simple: change the itinerary, not the holiday.

Here's something many visitors don't realise: much of the land you see around Marina Bay today is reclaimed land.

Another new friend from Australia 🇦🇺 added to my Friends of the World album.

What started as a private tour around Singapore quickly became plenty of laughs, questions, stories and good conversations along the way.

This is one of my favourite parts of being a tour guide. People arrive as guests, but sometimes by the end of the day, it feels more like showing Singapore to friends.

Sometimes the best stories in Singapore are hiding behind a little window. ☕🇸🇬

Meet Mrs Paulin Khoo, the grandmother behind KopiKhoo in Joo Chiat.

At 73, this former kindergarten teacher came out of retirement and started serving coffee from a tiny window built into the kitchen of her family home.

Her son taught her how to use the coffee machine, and what started as a family idea became something rather special in the neighbourhood.

No fancy café entrance. No big storefront.

Just a colourful little window, a cup of coffee and a grandmother who enjoys chatting with the people who stop by.

And that's what I love about exploring Joo Chiat.

The beautiful Peranakan shophouses may get most of the photographs, but sometimes it's the people behind the windows who give a neighbourhood its character.

Singapore isn't only about the places you see.

It's also about the people you meet along the way. ☕❤️🇸🇬

Would you believe this is right in the middle of Singapore? 🌿🇸🇬

This is the famous Fort Canning Tree Tunnel, one of those places where modern Singapore and its much older history meet.

But Fort Canning is far more than just a beautiful photo spot.

Long before modern Singapore, the hill was associated with the rulers of ancient Temasek and Singapura. It later became known as Bukit Larangan, or “Forbidden Hill”, because of its connection with Malay royalty.

After the British established a trading settlement in Singapore in 1819, the hill took on a very different role. Government House was built here, and later Fort Canning was constructed as part of Singapore's colonial defences.

Today, much of that military landscape has disappeared beneath a peaceful green park.

And tucked beneath it is this unusual tunnel, where concrete, tropical greenery and sunlight come together to create one of Singapore's most photographed views.

Most people come here for the photo.

I like bringing visitors here because there is a much bigger story above it.

Singapore is often described as a modern city, but sometimes you only need to look a little deeper to find the layers underneath.
