Almerรญa to Seville ๐ช๐ธ
Missed the eclipse this week? ๐
You'll want to save this route for 2nd of August 2027, because Spain has another, even better one scheduled. ๐ And what better way to witness it than mid-ride?
Ronda and Arcos de la Frontera, two of the overnight stops on this route, sit right inside the path of totality. ๐คฉ
It's not a beginner's ride, but it also overlaps with some of the La Vuelta's routes, which is a badge of honor on its own.
๐ The route
๐๏ธ Andalusia
Start: Almerรญa / Finish: Seville
๐
8 days / 7 nights
๐ 662 km | 411 miles
โฐ๏ธ 9,678 m climbing
๐ด Best time: March to November
๐ฅ Difficulty: 5/5
You start along the bay to Aguadulce. The next morning turns inland and follows the Andarax upstream โ citrus, olive terraces, vineyards, the sierra closing in on both sides.
Then over the Sierra Nevada into Granada, and from there up into the Antequera hills, where El Torcal's limestone stacks on the skyline. The Serranรญa after that, and a hard, beautiful ride through the Grazalema sierras to Arcos de la Frontera, visible long before you get there.
The finishing km are the crown jewel. Down out of the hills onto the Guadalquivir plain and into Seville through wheat and sunflower.
๐ก Tips
๐ธ Expect a genuinely 5/5 difficulty: serious climbing, back to back.
๐ธ Andalusia rides best October to April. The 2027 eclipse falls on 2 August, when inland temperatures can pass 40ยฐC, which means early starts
๐ธ An e-road bike takes the edge off the Sierra Nevada day
