Unpopular take: Sierra Leone is deeply divided, and that division affects how we see reality. We talk about electoral reform two years before elections, yet serious accountability issues remain unresolved.
When there are allegations of public officials using government revenue for personal gain, such as building private houses, and the consequences amount to quiet settlements or backdoor deals instead of transparent investigations and meaningful penalties, what message does that send? How are we supposed to learn as a nation if there are no real consequences?
If accountability is selective, public trust erodes. If misuse of public funds does not lead to serious legal consequences, then we normalize corruption. And when corruption becomes normal, progress becomes impossible.
I say this as a Sierra Leonean who wants better for the country. We cannot keep choosing sides over choosing standards. Without accountability, we will continue moving in circles.
