The Temne employ the Poro society for males and the Bondo society for females to impart lessons on the way of life, commitment, traditional medicinal knowledge, and leadership. For parents, witnessing their children undergo this process brings maternal joy and paternal prestige.

This is the Central Mosque that stands as one of the biggest and oldest sanctuaries in Makeni, reputed to be the inaugural Muslim missionary establishment in the late 1950s to the early 1960s .
Today, it has spawned numerous mosque offshoots throughout the area, yet it remains revered as the progenitor of them all, serving as the hub for various Muslim Jamaat organizations. This mosque is situated along the erstwhile Mabokarh road, now known as Biguzzi road.
