Strengthening Bangladesh–Thailand Connectivity: Ranong–Chittagong Shipping Route Opens New Horizons
On 2 July 2025, at Government House in Bangkok, a press conference was held announcing the success of connecting Thailand’s Ranong Port directly with Bangladesh’s Chittagong Port — a milestone that will significantly bolster logistics and trade.
H.E. Mr. Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand, attended the event alongside Dr. Nalini Taweesin, Chairman of the Thai Trade Representative, Mrs. Monporn Charoensri, Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Kriangkrai Chaiyasiriwongsuk, Director of the Port Authority of Thailand, and Ms. Pajana Paniangvet, Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in Chonburi.
This new shipping route will reduce transit time from 7–15 days to only 3–5 days, cutting costs and enhancing competitiveness for businesses. It not only links Bangladesh and Thailand but also paves the way to connect Thailand with the broader BIMSTEC region, reaching a market of 1.8 billion people.
Ambassador Kazi congratulated the Thai government and affirmed Bangladesh’s readiness to support this transformative venture at every step, ensuring it becomes concrete and sustainable.
Together towards a more connected and thriving Bay of Bengal region.
