Now part of Chiang Mai Design Week, this jazz festival is in its 7th year, with the main day scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, December 7, 2025.

The city of Chiang Mai has been an open stage for jazz and other music since December 1. Mini-concerts are also being held until Saturday evening. But tomorrow, the main stage will host the grand finale 😃

🍂🪢 Discover a traditional market retracing the history of ancient trade in the Lanna kingdom. You can buy local dishes, traditional clothing, rare handicrafts, and antique silverware. Workshops are also organized on site: basket weaving, fabric making, ceramics, and silverware engraving 💍

Demonstrations:
🟠 Khom Kham — Lanna swords and knives, talismans, and weapons carried by caravan merchants for protection.
🟠 Khao Ram Fuen — a dish from the Shan State, passed on to Lanna, symbolizing culinary exchanges.

🪷 Ascent of Doi Suthep by students from Chiang Mai University 🚶

This spectacular ascent, spectacular for the cultural richness it offers, will take place tomorrow, Saturday, November 22, 2025 😀 At 3:30 a.m. that night, the first groups of students will set off from the foot of the mountain, more precisely from the university campus. Leading the procession will be a palanquin protecting a crystal elephant. But if you arrive by 9 a.m. (at the latest), you will have the opportunity to see this extraordinary event.

The ritual walk to the sacred temple of Mount Suthep (เดินขึ้นดอย) is the most famous tradition at Chiang Mai University (CMU). All new students (น้องใหม่, nong mai) walk to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. The objectives of this day are as follows:
• to pay homage to the traditions of Chiang Mai;
• mark their entry into the CMU community;
• develop unity among students;
• participate in a meritorious act (ทำบุญ).

It is a deeply symbolic rite of passage, equivalent to a local initiation ceremony. It is an opportunity to see traditional Lanna dances and clothing. We believe this is one of the cultural events not to be missed in the Rose of the North!
