Sometimes my tours don't start in Chiang Mai… they start at Bangkok Airport. 🇹🇭✈️

A new journey begins.

This time I welcomed my guests in Bangkok – luggage, children and everything that comes with travelling as a family. 😄

And once everyone and every suitcase had found a place in our private minivan, we were ready to go.

But this isn't just an airport transfer.

Over the coming days, I'll be travelling with this lovely family, showing them different sides of Thailand – from busy Bangkok to historic places, local food, markets and many experiences along the way.

For me, this is one of the nicest ways to travel.

No rushing from airport to airport.
No fixed group schedule.
And no worrying about how to get from one place to the next.

Just get comfortable, look out of the window and enjoy Thailand. I'll take care of the rest. 😊

They say love goes through the stomach… and I think a good tour through Thailand should too. 😄🇹🇭

When my guests book a full tour with me, my job is not only to show them beautiful temples, mountains, villages and viewpoints.

I also make sure they don't go hungry. 😂

And whenever possible, that means getting away from the restaurants made mainly for tourists and sitting down where local people eat.

Sometimes my guests know exactly what they want. Sometimes they look at me and simply say:

“Wanchai, you choose!”

I have to admit… I like those words. 😜

Then the table starts filling up: Som Tam, grilled fish, meat, vegetables, sticky rice, spicy dishes to share – and usually a few things my guests have never tried before.

For me, Thai food is part of discovering Thailand. You can see beautiful places all day long, but sitting around a table together, sharing different dishes, laughing and trying something new is also part of the journey.

And judging by these smiles… I think my two wonderful guests were quite happy with my choices. ❤️😂

Mae Hong Son – where Northern Thailand slows down. 🌿🇹🇭

Surrounded by mountains, winding roads, peaceful temples, green rice fields and small local communities, Mae Hong Son has a very special atmosphere.

It’s not about rushing from one attraction to another.
It’s about enjoying the journey, the scenery and those quiet moments along the way.

Sometimes the road less travelled gives you the memories you remember the longest. 💚

Most visitors stop at the famous Golden Triangle viewpoint… but I usually take my guests a little further. 😉

Just a few minutes uphill is Wat Phra That Doi Pu Khao, an old temple overlooking the Golden Triangle.

Many visitors never make it up here. They take their photos at the famous viewpoint below, look across the Mekong towards Laos and Myanmar – and continue their journey.

But for me, this is one of those places where it is worth taking a little more time.

Old temple buildings, weathered brick, beautiful Naga stairways, peaceful surroundings – and from up here, another wonderful view across the Mekong and the Golden Triangle. 🇹🇭🇱🇦🇲🇲

And sometimes the people you travel with make a place even more special. ❤️

I absolutely love this couple. Always smiling, always joking, curious about everything and grateful for every experience along the way.

These are the moments I enjoy most as a private tour guide. Not simply driving from one famous attraction to the next, but having the time to explore, laugh together and show my guests some of the places they might otherwise pass by.

Some places are beautiful in sunshine. Ban Rak Thai doesn’t even need it. 🌫️🏮

High in the mountains of Mae Hong Son, close to the Myanmar border, lies a small village that feels completely different from the rest of Northern Thailand.

Ban Rak Thai was founded by Chinese Yunnanese settlers, and you can still feel this heritage everywhere – in the architecture, the food and, of course, the famous local tea. 🍵

But what I love most is the atmosphere.

During the day, clouds and mist can hang low over the mountains and lake, giving the village an almost mysterious feeling. And when evening arrives, Ban Rak Thai changes again. The lanterns and lights reflect on the water and suddenly the whole lake seems to glow. ✨

This is also why I never think cloudy weather means a bad travel day. Sometimes it creates exactly the atmosphere that makes a place unforgettable.

For me, Ban Rak Thai is one of those places that belongs on a Mae Hong Son Loop journey.

Sometimes the best stops are the ones you don’t plan too much. ☕🌾

Travelling through Mae Hong Son is not only about reaching the next destination.

For me, it is also about knowing when it is worth stopping along the way.

ChangThai coffee & changthai resort is one of those places. A small café surrounded by rice fields and mountains, with a view that makes you forget about the road for a while.

Coffee on the terrace, green rice fields in front of us, clouds hanging over the mountains… and absolutely no reason to hurry. 💚

And yes, sometimes my guests enjoy the view so much that getting them back into the car becomes the hardest part of my job. 😂

This is what I love about private road trips through Northern Thailand. We have the freedom to stop, enjoy places like this and simply take our time.

Because sometimes the little stops between the famous places become part of the best memories.

Happy Sunday from beautiful Northern Thailand! 🇹🇭💚

Sometimes even a tour guide needs to sit down, stretch his legs and simply enjoy the view. 😄

And honestly… I can think of worse places for a little break.

Green rice fields, mountains in the distance, fresh air and my guests enjoying another day exploring Mae Hong Son with me.

No rush. No big attraction.

Just one of those peaceful little moments on the road that make travelling through Northern Thailand so special. 🌾

Tomorrow we continue our journey – and I already know a good place for a coffee stop. ☕😉

Sometimes the most beautiful places in Thailand were never created for tourists. 🌾🇹🇭

Just outside Mae Hong Son, I love taking my guests to the Su Tong Pae Bridge – a bamboo bridge stretching across beautiful rice fields.

-----------------------------------------------------.....⚠️ A little update from Mae Hong Son:
Sadly, the recent heavy rains have damaged parts of the Su Tong Pae Bamboo Bridge. The good news is that rebuilding is already underway. 🙏

I have visited this beautiful place many times with my guests, so I really hope to see the bridge restored soon. Until then, please understand that some sections may not be accessible. 🌾🇹🇭......

It was originally built by monks and local villagers to make it easier for the monks to cross the fields between the monastery and the community. Even today you may see monks quietly walking across the bridge, just as we did during our visit. 🙏

The name “Su Tong Pae” comes from the local Shan language and is often interpreted as “successful prayer” or “wish fulfilled.”

And during the green season, this place becomes especially beautiful. 💚

The rice fields are lush and green, the mountains are covered in vegetation and clouds drift between the hills. This is exactly why I always say: don't be afraid of travelling Northern Thailand during the rainy season.

We walked across the bridge, enjoyed the peaceful countryside and, of course, had some fun along the way. 😄

Sometimes it's these simple moments that stay in your memory.

When the sun goes down, Mae Hong Son shows another side of itself. ✨

After exploring the mountains around Mae Hong Son, I always enjoy bringing my guests back into the heart of this small and peaceful town.

Right in the centre is Nong Chong Kham Lake, with the beautiful temples Wat Chong Kham and Wat Chong Klang standing beside it.

During the day, it is already a lovely place to walk around, visit the temples and simply slow down for a while.

But I especially love it in the evening. ❤️

As darkness falls, the temple lights come on and their golden reflections appear on the water.

Suddenly everything feels different.

No big city noise.
No need to rush to the next attraction.

Just the lake, the illuminated temples, the mountains around Mae Hong Son and a quiet evening in Northern Thailand. 🇹🇭

This is also why, when I travel the Mae Hong Son Loop with my guests, I don't want to simply drive from one famous place to another.

Sometimes the best moments happen after the sightseeing is officially finished. 😊

Today, for once, I'm not celebrating a beautiful temple, an amazing view or another day on the road through Thailand…

Today I'm celebrating me. 😂

Another year older – hopefully a little wiser – but still just as happy to wake up every morning in the country I love and do a job that has brought so many wonderful people into my life. ❤️

Over the years, I've had the chance to travel thousands of kilometres through Thailand, meet guests from all over the world, share my culture, laugh a lot, eat a lot 😋 and create memories together in so many different places.

Some guests stayed for a day.
Some travelled with me for weeks.
Some came back again.

And some became friends. ❤️

That's probably one of the greatest gifts this job has given me.

So today I'm simply grateful – for my family, my friends, my guests, everyone who follows my adventures here, and everyone who has been part of my journey.

And don't worry…

I'm not taking the day off. Thailand is still waiting. 😂🇹🇭
