✈️ Coffee on a plane… without actually going anywhere? 😄

Sometimes my tours include places that are simply fun – and the Air Diamond Cafe & Hotel in Mae Taeng is definitely one of them.

Here you can step aboard a real Airbus A330 without worrying about check-in, luggage or turbulence. 😄 The former passenger aircraft has been turned into a very unusual café, where you can have a coffee, enjoy some cake and even take a look around the aircraft. ✈️☕️🍰

But there is more to discover outside.

Under the huge aircraft you will find a small collection of old cars – from a classic Mercedes to a colourful VW bus. 🚗 And then things become a little crazy: Spider-Man is waiting beside a yellow Mercedes, there is a giant Fred Flintstone, and even a whole house standing upside down. 😂

It is certainly not a traditional sightseeing stop – and that is exactly why I sometimes enjoy bringing my guests here.

Northern Thailand isn't only about temples, mountains and waterfalls. Sometimes it is simply about stopping somewhere unexpected, having a coffee and enjoying something completely different. 😊

☀️ HAPPY SUNDAY

Sometimes I’m in front of the camera too. 😄🙏🇹🇭

Most of the time, when I travel with my guests, I’m the one behind the camera – showing them places, explaining the stories, finding the best stops and making sure they go home with plenty of beautiful memories.

But every now and then… someone tells the tour guide to stand still and smile too. 😄📸

And I actually like this photo.

Not because of me, but because it represents something that is an important part of my life: welcoming people to Thailand and sharing the country I call home.

Temples, mountains, villages, local food, long drives, lots of conversations and usually plenty of laughter along the way. That’s what my days with guests are about. ❤️

Some places make you stop for a moment. Not because they are crowded or famous – but because they are peaceful. 🇹🇭

High in the mountains of Doi Mae Salong in Chiang Rai, we visited Wat Phra That Santitham.

The white and golden chedi looks beautiful against the deep blue sky, but for me the real surprise is what surrounds it. From up here, the view opens across the green mountains of northern Chiang Rai – layer after layer disappearing into the distance. ⛰️💚

And this is exactly why I enjoy travelling through this part of Northern Thailand with my guests. Doi Mae Salong is known for its tea plantations, mountain roads and fascinating cultural history, but there are also places like this where we can simply slow down for a while.

No rushing from one attraction to the next.

We walk around, enjoy the temple, look across the mountains – and sometimes just stand there quietly and take it all in.

These little moments often become some of my favourite memories from a tour. 😊

🍊 From fresh oranges in the mountains to lunch beside a jungle stream… 🇹🇭

One thing I love about exploring Chiang Mai is how quickly the scenery changes once we leave the city behind.

Our first stop today is Jin Ju The Orange Farm in Mon Jam. 🍊🌿

Up here in the mountains, we walk between the orange trees, enjoy the beautiful green surroundings and, of course, try some delicious fresh oranges. Sometimes the simple things are the best – especially when you can pick and taste them where they grow. 😊

But exploring makes us hungry…

So we continue to River Rock Restaurant, surrounded by forest with the sound of water running over the rocks below. 🌳💦

Before lunch, a little walk across the suspension bridge – and then it's time to sit down, relax and enjoy some good Thai food.

This is exactly the kind of day I enjoy showing my guests: not rushing from one famous attraction to another, but combining nature, local places, good food and time to actually enjoy where we are.

Sometimes Chiang Mai doesn't need temples at all. 😉🇹🇭

🌿 Sometimes the best part of a day is simply slowing down… 🇹🇭

After a busy weekend exploring temples and sights around Chiang Mai, I sometimes like to take my guests somewhere completely different.

About 30 minutes outside the city is Huay Tueng Thao Reservoir – a place where many Thai people come to escape the city for a few hours.

And I understand why. 😊

Instead of another temple or tourist attraction, we take off our shoes, sit together in one of the simple bamboo huts beside the water and order some good Thai food. 🌶️🍚

No rush. No sightseeing schedule. Just eating, talking, relaxing and enjoying the view across the lake towards the mountains.

For me, moments like this are also part of discovering Thailand. You don't always need another famous attraction. Sometimes it's much nicer to experience a place the way local people enjoy it.

And before we head back, there is still time for something completely different nearby: the Huay Tueng Thao Sculpture Park with its enormous straw sculptures. The giant King Kong is definitely hard to miss! 😄🦍

Good food, a bamboo hut by the lake, beautiful scenery and a little fun afterwards.

Not a bad way to finish a weekend in Chiang Mai. 💚

😊 Happy Sunday from Chiang Mai! 🇹🇭

Another week, another temple… and yes, another photo. 😄

But even after visiting so many temples over the years, I never get tired of places like this.

For me, being a tour guide is not simply about driving from one attraction to the next. It is about sharing my home, explaining the little details, answering questions and helping my guests understand a little more about Thai culture and everyday life.

Sometimes we explore famous places. Sometimes we discover somewhere completely unexpected. And sometimes there is simply time for a quick photo with a very impressive neighbour behind me. 😄🙏

That's one of the things I love about my job: no two days and no two tours are ever exactly the same.

🌅 Some places are worth getting up early for… 🇹🇭

Doi Suthep is one of them.

High above Chiang Mai, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is probably the city's most famous temple – but for me, visiting Doi Suthep is about much more than seeing a beautiful golden chedi.

Come early enough and you can watch the sun rise while Chiang Mai slowly wakes up far below. Later in the day, the viewpoint gives you a completely different panorama across the city.

And then comes the question I sometimes ask my guests: stairs or funicular? 😄

You can climb the famous Naga staircase through the trees. Or take the funicular and save your energy for exploring the temple. Both eventually lead to the same beautiful place.

At the top, the golden chedi, bells, Buddha images and traditional Lanna architecture create a very special atmosphere.

And if my guests would like something more personal, we can also receive a traditional blessing from a Buddhist monk. 🙏

Sunrise, a little exercise – if you choose the stairs 😄 – beautiful views, culture and a quiet moment inside one of Chiang Mai's most important temples.

That's Doi Suthep. And no visit to Chiang Mai really feels complete without seeing it at least once. 💛

🦚 One temple… and so much to discover. 🇹🇭

When guests ask me which temples around Chiang Mai are worth visiting, Wat Ban Den is always an interesting one to show them.

Its full name is Wat Den Sali Sri Muang Kaen. Although its history goes back much further, much of the spectacular complex visitors see today was developed in recent decades.

What makes this place special is its size and incredible detail.

Huge white Singha guardians stand beside richly decorated buildings, colourful peacocks welcome you near the entrance, and inside you find beautiful Buddha images surrounded by dark wood, gold and intricate Lanna-style decoration.

And then there are the twelve zodiac pagodas.

In Northern Thai Buddhist tradition, each year of birth is associated with a sacred temple or chedi. Wat Ban Den brings representations of all twelve together – so visitors can find the one connected with their own birth year.

That's why I like taking my time here with guests. There isn't just one building to photograph and leave again. There are details, symbols and stories everywhere.

And that's also why having a local guide can make a temple visit more interesting than simply seeing another beautiful building. 😊
