October Cruise to Ko Samet and Ko Samaesan

Advance Notice and Change of Dates.

The OMYC calendar shows the dates for the Ko Samet Cruise this year to be 27-28 October. However, a survey of cruisers has unanimously agreed that a change of date would be more appropriate. Since the Chulalongkorn public holiday is on Tuesday 23rd October, a better option will be to hold the cruise from Saturday 20th to Tuesday 23rd Oct, which means only one work day off (for some people).

Expressions of interest so far have been received from:

Kirafiki Peter Herning
El Coyote Gary Baguley
Sansanook Andrew Watt
Dream George Foose
Magic David Bell
Petrel Tony Mallia
Lin Ching Bernd
Ninian Bill Horgan
Peridot Ken Stafford
Karisa II Marc Maton
Jabberwocky Ian Brooks

The cruise will be a low key affair and will give less experienced sailors an opportunity to cruise in company with more experienced members of the club. Many people will depart OMYC on Saturday and spend the first night at Ko Samaesan, leaving for Ko Samet on Sunday. There is a possibility of arranging one or two dinners ashore as a group, but this will be optional. You will find attached pictures/charts of the suggested anchorages on Ko Samaesan and Ko Samet. Further information will be sent to all participants nearer the event

Motor cruisers are welcome to join in the event.

Please reply to [email protected] if you are interested in taking part in this cruise.

The second attempt to run the OMYC Anniversary Regatta was concluded with 3 races sailed over the weekend 11-12th February. Despite soft winds in the morning the afternoon breeze came up and good sailing conditions prevailed. On Saturday the long distance race included the traditional parking lot at Ko Khram Noi, with mostly the slower boats badly affected. Amongst the front runners last year's club champion Magic managed to park on the rocks needing the engine to recover. On Sunday two around the cans races took place in a steady building breeze. Despite an early start in the last race Dynamite with Brad Kirk took the overall honours in the IRC Class with two first and a fourth ahead of Lennart Fahlgren's Amanda and Khun Surapol's Hi Jinks. In the multihull class David Wales and The Sting came out on top ahead of Thierry Cereleron in No Limit and David Race in Freee Wheeler. Nick Henley in Nataya was victorious in the Platu/Sports Boat Class ahead of the Weasel and Kipsan Beck's Hello Kitty. Finally Petrel with Tony Mallia was first amongst the cruisers.
