Content creation as a woman over 40 and what I’ve learned.

✨️One thing people often don’t realize is that I am over 45. I think because the travel content creator space especially here is dominated by younger creators and I've realized that the 20s & 30s.people are viewing me through a completely different lens.

✨️Secondly imposter syndrome is real. Even though I genuinely enjoy creating travel content and feel comfortable doing it, there are moments where I question whether I belong in this space because society tends to market travel influencing as something for younger women.

✨️The third thing is the pressure to create a certain type of content. There’s pressure to sound a certain way, dress a certain way, follow trends, or create overly aesthetic content just to satisfy the algorithm. And while I understand how social media work, I’ve also had to accept that some things are simply not me.
You’ll probably never find me forcing content that doesn’t align with who I am just because it performs well online.

✨️I want my platform to feel authentic to me.

✨️And lastly, as a creator over 40, growth can sometimes take longer. The audience you naturally attract may be at varying stages of life. Some are caretakers, and some may not have the freedom to travel spontaneously or solo. One thing I’ve learned is there is space for us.

There is space for women over 40 to travel.
Space for women over 40 to create.
Space for women over 40 to reinvent themselves publicly and unapologetically.

And honestly, I think we need to see more of it.

African Liberation Day is commemorated annually on the 25th of May. It originated as “African Freedom Day” on April 15th, 1958 when the first Pan African Conference (Conference of Independent African States) was held.
Heads of government from Liberia, Morocco, Libya, Sudan, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Ghana and the National Liberation Front of Algeria and the Unions of the Cameroonian Peoples gathered under the patronage of Kwame Nkrumah for this notable assembly.

When the 32 Heads of Independent African States convened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for a summit on May 25th in 1963, African Freedom Day was renamed African Liberation Day. It was at that same summit that the Organization of African Unity, now known as the African Union (AU), was born.

This occasion marks significant steps in the movement towards liberation for Africans and members of its Diaspora. African Liberation Day allows for a day to reflect, review and access the progress of the liberation movement.

African Liberation Day / Africa Day is now celebrated internationally as a day to reaffirm the commitment to Pan Africanism and the liberation and unification of Africans on the continent and in the Diaspora.

In the past few years, the Caribbean has been identified as the sixth region of Africa with plans for greater connectivity between the region and the continent being championed by numerous groups on both sides of the Atlantic. 3 skincare items from Ghana that I love 🇬🇭✨

♡African Black Soap ~ has always been a favorite, but since visiting Ghana I’ve grown to love it even more, especially because it’s natural. It’s antibacterial which helps with my back acne and also helps even out hyperpigmentation.

♡ African Net Cloth ~ now I understand the hype from Black Girl Shower Tok because this is the REAL deal 😂 I am never going back to exfoliating gloves that only last a month. This thing really exfoliates and smooths your skin, not to mention it reaches all the spots.

♡ Raw Shea Butter ~ After all that exfoliating, it’s only right to put some moisture back into your skin. I’ve also been using it with my retinol routine to help act as a barrier and lock in moisture.

What’s your favorite all-natural African skincare go to? ✨🌍

𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝟯𝟰 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 and here are a few things travel has taught me so far.

1. Anytime you make that statement online, there’s always going to be that person who says.. “I’ve been to more.” Travel is still uncommon for people like me from regions where I come from, so for some people even when you're not they'll feel you're competing. Congratulations on seeing the world 🌎 👏 🙏

2. Always remain curious. I try not to have a fixed mindset about culture, religion, food, or people. Travel has taught me to be far more open minded and I've enjoyed that. 🔎🍛🎭

3. I’ve learned to enjoy people in the moment. I’ve met amazing people while traveling and had beautiful experiences without feeling pressured to exchange information or force connections beyond the moment. In this age of constant access and communication, we sometimes forget that some moments are meant to simply be enjoyed as they are, then continue about your business. 👫👬🥂

4. People are still kind. In a world where we constantly hear about horrible human beings, my travels have reminded me that everyday people are still kind, "offline" people are still kind. The guy who carried my luggage up two flights of stairs in NYC. The girl who translated for me at a counter in Morocco because I didn’t speak the language. So many instances to name. Kindness exists. Humanity still exists.😇😊🤗❤️

5. Travel has taught me respect, adaptability, and true humility. (Although I think this has always been my nature and can also be because of upbringing). I've learned how to blend in and adapt almost anywhere. From India to Thailand to Ghana to Colombia to Germany and even right here in the Caribbean islands... Travel taught me that humility isn’t something you announce it’s something you show.
