I’d been to Venice before, but visiting in winter felt completely different.

Yes, it was cold. Yes, we had fog. And yes, the days were much shorter.

But wandering through Venice without the intense summer heat and with noticeably fewer people around made such a difference.

We could actually slow down, wander the little streets and canals, stop for cicchetti and an Aperol Spritz, and enjoy places like St Mark’s Square without feeling completely overwhelmed by crowds.

And weirdly, the fog ended up being one of my favourite parts.

Seeing the gondolas and buildings slowly disappear into it made Venice feel even more atmospheric.

Would I choose winter if I wanted guaranteed blue skies and warm weather? Probably not.

But would I visit Venice in winter again?

Absolutely!

If you’re going to see Michelangelo’s David in Florence, don’t make the mistake I did...

I thought I could sort out tickets when I got there. Turns out, David is one of the most popular things to see in Florence, and the Accademia can book up quickly.

Seeing him in person is also completely different from seeing photos. The statue is over five metres tall, and you really don’t appreciate the scale and detail until you’re standing underneath it.

This is one Florence attraction I’d absolutely book ahead rather than risk missing.

The biggest surprise about Istanbul? It wasn't the famous sights that made me love it.

Of course, seeing Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Basilica Cistern for the first time was incredible.

But some of my favourite memories came from everything in between, drinking Turkish tea, wandering through neighbourhoods away from Sultanahmet, taking the ferry across the Bosphorus and stopping whenever I spotted somewhere good to eat.

Istanbul is one of those cities where you need to leave room in your itinerary for the unexpected.

The easiest part of my Rome trip was actually getting there. 🚆🇮🇹

Before I visited, I assumed I’d need a taxi from the airport.

Turns out, the Leonardo Express was quicker, easier and much less stressful.

It leaves directly from Fiumicino Airport, takes about 30 minutes to reach Roma Termini, and there’s plenty of space for your luggage.

Sometimes the simplest travel tips end up being the most useful.

The Acropolis might be Athens’ most famous attraction... but it wasn’t my favourite part of the city.

Of course, you can’t come to Athens without seeing it. Standing beside the Parthenon and looking out over the city is one of those experiences you have to do at least once.

But I also loved wandering through Plaka, discovering the little whitewashed streets of Anafiotika tucked beneath the Acropolis, stopping for Greek food and finding viewpoints overlooking the city.

Athens has so much more to it than its famous ancient ruins, and I think that’s what surprised me most.

Going to see Michelangelo’s David in Florence?

There are a few things I’d do differently next time 🇮🇹

Seeing David in person is absolutely worth it, but the Accademia Gallery is one of Florence’s most popular attractions, so a little planning makes a huge difference.

Here’s what I’d know before going 👇

🎟️ Book ahead - timed tickets can sell out, especially during the busy summer months.
⏰ Go early - the gallery opens at 8:15 AM and I’d choose one of the first entry times if you want to avoid the biggest crowds.
👗 No church dress code - unlike some of Florence’s religious sites, you don’t need to cover your shoulders and knees here.
🎒 Be prepared for security - bags are checked before entering, so travelling light will make things easier.
👀 Don’t leave after seeing David - make time for Michelangelo’s unfinished Prisoners, the collection of Florentine paintings and the surprisingly interesting Museum of Musical Instruments.

And one final tip: don’t rely on turning up and buying a ticket on the day. If David is high on your Florence list, this is one attraction I’d organise before your trip.

There’s one thing I really wish I knew before visiting Cappadocia...

Those famous hot air balloons aren’t guaranteed to fly every morning.

Flights depend on the weather, and they can be cancelled if conditions aren’t safe. That’s why I wouldn’t leave your balloon ride until the last morning of your trip.

Book it for as early in your stay as possible. That way, if it gets cancelled, you may have another chance on one of the following mornings.

Even if you’re not planning to fly, waking up early to watch hundreds of balloons float over Cappadocia is something I wouldn’t miss.

Here’s the Florence tip I wish someone had told me before I visited... 🇮🇹

Don’t leave your attraction tickets until the day.

Florence is one of Italy’s most visited cities, and the biggest sights can book out well before you arrive.

I learned that the hard way after missing out on experiences I was really looking forward to.

Now I’d always:
✔️ Reserve tickets early.
✔️ Plan my itinerary around entry times.
✔️ Leave plenty of time to simply enjoy wandering Florence.

It makes a huge difference.

If you’re visiting Rome for the first time, don’t underestimate how much you’re going to walk.

Rome looks manageable on a map, but once you start adding the Colosseum, Vatican, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and all those little detours along the way, the kilometres add up quickly.

I’d group nearby attractions together rather than zigzagging across the city, wear shoes you can comfortably walk in all day and avoid trying to squeeze every famous sight into one itinerary.

Rome is much more enjoyable when you’re not racing from one side of the city to the other.

You’re hungry in Singapore… here’s where I’d eat 👇

One of the best things about Singapore is the food, and you don’t need to spend a lot to eat REALLY well.

Hawker centres are one of my favourite ways to try a little bit of everything.

Here are 5 spots I’d add to your list 👇

📍 Maxwell Food Centre - A great first stop for classic Singapore hawker food, especially if you’re exploring Chinatown.

📍 Lau Pa Sat - One of Singapore’s most iconic hawker centres, right in the middle of the CBD.

📍 Satay Street - Head here in the evening when the street outside Lau Pa Sat fills with satay stalls 🔥

📍 Chinatown Complex Food Centre - Huge, local and packed with stalls. Come hungry because there’s a LOT to choose from.

📍 Tekka Centre, Little India - Perfect to combine with a day exploring Little India, with plenty of Indian and local dishes to try.
