You come for the ocean. You stay for the people.

Ocean crossings teach you many things…

like exactly how many ci******es you actually smoke.

Most people never discover this world.

You don't need to own a yacht.
You don't need sailing experience.
And in some cases, you don't even need money.

For the last 10 years we've sailed with hundreds of people from all over the world. Many had never stepped on a sailboat before.

Part 2: I'll show you exactly where people find these opportunities.

Would you join a yacht as crew if it meant seeing the world?

Most of the day is pretty ordinary.

Cleaning. Fixing things. Cooking dinner. Checking the weather. Making plans.

Then every now and then, the sky reminds you why you're here.

Most people think sailing from the Bahamas to Canada is all palm trees and sunsets.

The reality is a little different.

We spent 12 days at sea, using the Gulf Stream to our advantage, dodging thunderstorms, standing night watches, cooking in a moving kitchen, and trying to get some sleep whenever the boat allowed it.

At one point we were effectively sailing on a treadmill, making good speed through the water while the current worked for and against us depending on where we were.

The crossing wasn't extreme by offshore standards, but it reminded us how quickly conditions can change offshore. A calm morning can turn into a rough night, and a routine watch can become the most memorable part of the trip.

After nearly two weeks at sea, seeing the coast of Canada appear on the horizon felt pretty good.

Would you spend 12 days crossing from the Bahamas to Canada on a sailboat?

Day 9 update.

After a few hard days in the Gulf Stream, the ocean has finally gone quiet. No wind. Flat sea. Silence.

But now we face another dilemma.

In about three days a storm is expected to hit the Gulf of Maine, and we need to get north before it arrives. Problem is… we’re facing headwinds, and our transmission isn’t too happy about the current state of affairs either.

We have a replacement transmission waiting for us in Canada.
Unfortunately that doesn’t help much right now.

So for the moment we drift, dry our gear, fix what we can, and try to squeeze every mile possible out of Seafinn before the weather catches us.

Finally back on the water.
