Have you ever attended any temple festivals in Taipei yet? The nighttime parade of Qing Shan Temple is one of the three major temple festivals in Taipei.

Every year in the Lunar calendar from Oct.21, 22 and 23, for 3 consecutive days, Qing Shan King will have patrols throughout the whole Wenhua district with his 16 guards in order to ward off evil spirits and protect the people. You will see the 16 guards each with different facial paintings and weapons, walking ceremoniously.

【Course Throwback 4 : 07/21 Taipei Walking Tour!!!】

We want to thank Taipei Walking Tour for showing us around Da-Dao-Cheng—a place full of the past stories of Taipei. We not only got a chance to visit the Lin Liu-Hsin Puppet Theatre Museum and take a glance at different puppet characters introduced by the puppet master, but also walked through the Yong-Le Market, Xia-Hai City God temple and one of the oldest Watsons in town. While taking a sip of the herb tea and strolling along Di-Hua Street, our experienced tour guide Kay told us about the diverse styles that different buildings featured, including Baroque, Taiwanese, Postmodernism, Western…etc. We even got to walk in the oldest building ever built in Da-Dao-Cheng—the “Lin Wu-Hu Old House”, which is a tea-selling store now that gives free tours on a regular basis. Da-Dao-Cheng is now a mixture of the old and new culture, for example the URS127 (Urban Regeneration Station 127) is a building that was partly renewed, and is now aimed to promote the sustainable management of historic resources and spatial environment. The two hour tour was very informative, also by walking through the streets and corners, we explored the true Da-Dao-Cheng, and were amazed by how many stories it can hold!
THANK YOU AGAIN, TAIPEI WALKING TOUR!!! :-)

[Walk Around Taipei #1: Public Housing in Nanjichang]
You have probably been to Nanjichang Night Market, where you can find Bawan praised by CNN. Yet have you ever wondered what these crowded buildings are and who live inside?

To settle poor immigrants from country side in 1960's, government built small housings for them with very limited space. Those who could afford better housing soon moved out whereas others remain in the tiny units.

Recently, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je has made public housing and urban renewal focal points of his new administration. What will be the future of the residents in Nanjichang, who couldn't afford housing in any other place in Taipei?

[Discover Dadaocheng with Performing Artists]
Dadaocheng was one of the richest area in Taipei, gathering numerous drama groups in different genres. So we tried an experimenting tour this afternoon, combining a walking tour and short performances of Chinese Opera, Taiwanese Opera and Beiguan. Isn't it amazing to actually experience the leisure life of Dadaocheng residents in 1920s, 40s and 60s in a Saturday afternoon?
