Altitude • Mountain • Sickness 🏔️🔥

Heading into the mountains is magical — but altitude can catch anyone out. Even the fittest, most seasoned climbers aren’t immune. That’s why preparation is everything.

1️⃣ Altitude sickness doesn’t care how fit you are
You could be running marathons or lifting mountains, and it could still hit you. Fitness helps stamina, but it won’t make you invincible. Train as much as possible beforehand — strong legs, good cardio, and a conditioned body make the climb easier and help you handle thinner air.

2️⃣ Altitude mode kicks in in seconds
The air gets thinner fast, your breathing changes, your heart works harder, and you’ll feel it immediately. Pacing, hydration, and listening to your body are essential from the very first step.

3️⃣ Hydration is your superpower
Drink more water than you think you need. Staying hydrated helps your body acclimatise and keeps fatigue, headaches, and dizziness at bay.

4️⃣ Protect your lips — seriously 😅
Cold air + wind + altitude = swollen, cracked lips. Keep lip balm on you at all times and reapply constantly. Your future self will thank you.

5️⃣ Slow and steady wins the mountain
No sprinting. No proving anything. Take it slow, enjoy the views, and let your body adjust. Patience is your secret weapon at high altitude.

6️⃣ Kilimanjaro is tough — but we’ve got your back
There’s no sugar-coating it — this mountain is a challenge. But with the right preparation, mindset, and support team, it’s achievable and unforgettable.

Good News!

Already we have Lita & Nadine from Hiking Buddies Ireland in Tanzania, ready to conquer the highest free standing mountain in the world and safari of a lifetime experience.

The next group (12) buddies will arrive tomorrow morning and they will join Lita & Nadine on 2nd Feb in a 7 days Machame route plus 2 days safari.

Tanzania is home to some of the most famous national parks in Africa, such as Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. You'll get the chance to see the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros) in their natural habitat, as well as a wide variety of other animals and bird species.

During your safari, you'll have the opportunity to witness incredible wildlife sightings, including the annual Great Migration in the Serengeti where millions of wildebeest and zebras make their way across the plains. You might also spot elusive big cats, graceful giraffes, majestic elephants, and a plethora of colorful birds.

The Mount Kilimanjaro climate is generally cool and temperate. As hikers climb from the base of the mountain to the peak, they will see a large amount of climate variety.

Mount Kilimanjaro is home to 5 unique climate zones - all of which hikers via any route pass through on their climb up to the summit, Uhuru Peak!
