Stretching over 70 km and typically completed in 7 to 8 days, the Lemosho Route is often hailed as the most beautiful way to climb Kilimanjaro. Starting from the lush rainforest at Londorossi Gate, the Lemosho trail takes you across dramatic landscapes — the Shira Plateau, the towering Lava Tower, into the stunning Barranco Valley, and over the exhilarating Barranco Wall, before your final ascent from Barafu Camp. Zebra Rocks 🦓⛰🏔😀👌

When climbing Mount Kilimanjaro via the Marangu route, don’t miss the stunning Zebra Rocks! These unique volcanic lava cliffs are naturally striped, resembling a zebra’s coat—thanks to black lava and mineral-rich water that has flowed down, creating striking black and white patterns. A must-see natural beauty and an ideal spot for acclimatization!

Located at around 4010 meters above sea level, Zebra Rocks sit at the boundary between the forest zone and the alpine desert zone of Kilimanjaro. For climbers on the 6-day Marangu route, the third-day trek to Zebra Rocks is a crucial stop for acclimatization. This allows hikers to adjust to the high altitude before returning to the Horombo Huts campsite, which sits at 3720 meters. However, those on the 5-day Marangu route don’t have this extra acclimatization day. They proceed directly to Horombo Huts on day three without a visit to Zebra Rocks.

Stunning Natural Beauty: The Zebra Rocks are a striking sight, with their unique black-and-white striped appearance. These natural lava formations are a must-see geological feature on the mountain.
