🦛 Hippos in Silale Swamp, Tarangire
Silale Swamp is one of the important wetland areas in Tarangire National Park. During the wet season, water collects across the swamp and creates a rich habitat for wildlife.
Hippos can be seen in and around the deeper water areas, spending much of the day submerged to keep their bodies cool. They are excellent swimmers and can remain underwater for several minutes at a time. As evening approaches, they often leave the water to feed on fresh grass around the swamp.
The swamp is also attractive to many other animals and birds because water and green vegetation remain available. Elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, birds and other wildlife are commonly associated with this ecosystem.
One of the special experiences is watching a hippo emerge quietly from the water, often covered in mud, before beginning its evening grazing.

🦓 Zebras in the Ngorongoro Crater
Zebras are among the animals you are very likely to see on a game drive inside the crater. They usually move in herds, often feeding peacefully on the open grasslands.
The crater provides excellent grazing, water, and protection, so zebras can remain in the area throughout much of the year. You may see them:
Grazing across the open plains
Moving together in large herds
Standing alongside wildebeest and gazelles
Near water sources and wetlands
With their young foals following closely beside them
One of the beautiful things about seeing zebras in Ngorongoro is the contrast between their black-and-white stripes and the green or golden crater grasslands, with the steep crater walls rising in the background.
The crater is also home to lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, hyenas, wildebeest, gazelles and, with some luck, the endangered black rhino. So a single game drive can give you an incredible variety of wildlife in a relatively concentrated area.
In short: Ngorongoro is like a natural wildlife amphitheatre, and the zebras are an important part of the spectacular scene on the crater floor.
