Did you know that hippos may spend most of their day in the water, but they can’t actually swim?! They move by pushing themselves off the riverbed and can hold their breath for around 5 minutes.

They’re also surprisingly fast on land, reaching speeds of up to 30 km/h, and their huge mouths can open almost 180 degrees. 😳

These fascinating giants are a powerful reminder that there’s always more to wildlife than meets the eye. 🌿🦛

Planning a trip to Mainland Tanzania? 🇹🇿

Here’s an important travel update to keep in mind!

From 1 October 2026, eligible foreign travellers entering Tanzania Mainland are required to purchase a mandatory inbound travel insurance policy.
Key details:
* Adults 18+: USD 44
* Children 3-17: USD 22
* Infants 0-2: Free
* Groups of 10+ adults: 10% discount on the adult premium
* Valid for up to 92 days, including multiple entries
* Coverage includes emergency medical treatment, medical evacuation, repatriation and loss of luggage

𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁?

The requirement does not apply to residents of East African Community (EAC) or Southern African Development Community (SADC) partner states. Other exemptions may apply in specific circumstances, so travellers who believe they qualify should confirm their status with the relevant authorities.

Please note that existing international travel insurance does not replace the required local inbound policy where the regulation applies.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗭𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗶𝗯𝗮𝗿?

If Zanzibar is your first point of entry, visitors should use the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) inbound insurance system. Zanzibar already has its own mandatory inbound travel insurance requirement.
If your journey starts on Zanzibar, the Mainland inbound insurance requirement still applies.

You can apply online here: https://inbound.nicinsurance.co.tz . You will also be able to get the insurance on arrival, but we recommend doing it online beforehand to save time at the airport.

The climb was almost complete… then everything went wrong. 🐆

A leopard fought to drag its hard-earned kill up the tree, almost reaching safety when suddenly CRASH! Both leopard and prey came tumbling down.

And waiting for exactly that moment was a hyena.

The hyena seized the opportunity and stole the kill, forcing the leopard to make a quick retreat back toward the tree before becoming the next target.

In the wild, every meal comes with a price—and sometimes, the hunter can become the hunted.
