7 DAYS LEMOSHO ROUTE
Day 1: Lemosho Gate → Mti Mkubwa Camp
Altitude: 2,100m → 2,780m
Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Distance: ~7 km
You enter the rainforest of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park and hike through thick forest with chances to see monkeys and birds. The trail is gentle and good for warming up.
Camp: Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp)
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp → Shira 1 Camp
Altitude: 2,780m → 3,500m
Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Distance: ~8 km
The forest slowly disappears and you enter the heath and moorland zone with amazing views of the Shira Plateau.
Camp: Shira 1 Camp
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp → Shira 2 Camp
Altitude: 3,500m → 3,850m
Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Distance: ~7 km
A shorter trekking day across the Shira Plateau, one of the most beautiful areas of the mountain.
Camp: Shira 2 Camp
Day 4: Shira 2 → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
Altitude: 3,850m → 4,630m → 3,960m
Hiking time: 6–7 hours
You hike up to Lava Tower for acclimatization and then descend to Barranco Camp. This day follows the rule “climb high, sleep low.”
Camp: Barranco Camp
Day 5: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
Altitude: 3,960m → 4,035m
Hiking time: 4–5 hours
You climb the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting parts of the trek, then continue to Karanga Valley.
Camp: Karanga Camp
Day 6: Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp
Altitude: 4,035m → 4,640m
Hiking time: 3–4 hours
A short but steep climb to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt.

Rest early for the summit climb.
Day 7: Barafu → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
Altitude: 4,640m → 5,895m → 3,100m
Hiking time: 10–14 hours
Midnight start to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, descend to Mweka Camp.
