ZONE 1/5
THE MONTANE FOREST ZONE

Now we leave the farms and villages behind and enter the forest.

This is where Kilimanjaro starts to feel more like a real mountain.

The forest is green, cool and sometimes very wet. You may see tall trees, moss, birds and even monkeys along the way.

🌡️ During the day, temperatures are usually around 15–25°C, but it can feel much cooler when the weather changes.

You might start the day with sunshine… and a few hours later, you are walking through mist and rain.

This is also where you start to notice that the air is getting thinner as we climb higher.

But remember…

We are only in Zone 1

🏔️ We still have three more climate zones to go, and the mountain is going to change a lot.
