The climbing lions are found in Queen Elizabeth NP, Ishasha sector. This behaviour of tree-climbing is unusual elsewhere in Africa. Because of a lack of studies the reason why lions behave like this in the savannah of Ishasha is still uncertain. Is it to escape from biting flies ? Is it to get some fresh air ? Or is this custom of ascending trees “culturally” ingrained and not a response to any external stimuli ?
Anyway it’s always amazing to see them (from a small distance as 3 or 4 meters) lying on branches of fig trees or albezia trees. Great experience !

Uganda hosts many primates. Most famous are chimpanzees and mountain gorillas. Tracking these great apes in the jungle is just massive !
