In the Ishasha sector of Uganda's Queen Elizabeth National Park, lions don't lounge in the grass — they drape themselves across the branches of ancient fig trees, paws dangling into open air, dozing through the afternoon heat. 🌳

It is one of only two places on earth where lions do this habitually. The behaviour is learned, passed from mother to cub, which is why you'll find it here and almost nowhere else in Africa.

The best part for European travellers? Ishasha sits directly between the Queen Elizabeth game circuit and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest — so the tree lions slot neatly into the same trip as your gorilla trek. No detour required. 🦍

Flights from London to Entebbe run around £600–£850 return. A Uganda gorilla permit is $800, roughly half of Rwanda's. A 7-day mid-range itinerary covering all three lands between £1,900 and £2,600 per person.

Right now is peak Great Migration season in the Masai Mara. From late July through October, the herds cross the Mara River again and again, with crocodiles waiting below and lion, cheetah and hyena shadowing the plains above. It is the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth, and it is happening this month. 🌍

Here's the thing most first-timers don't realise: there's no schedule. A herd might mass at the bank for six hours and never cross, then pour over at sunrise the next day. That's why we always recommend at least three nights near the river rather than a single day trip — it's the difference between hoping and seeing. 🐆
