Bird Fact: White-faced Whistling Duck

The White-faced Whistling Duck is one of Africa’s most recognizable waterbirds, named for its distinctive white face and high-pitched whistling call.

Here are a few interesting facts:

* 🌍 Found across much of sub-Saharan Africa, including Uganda’s wetlands.
* 💧 Commonly seen around lakes, swamps, and floodplains such as those in and around Mabamba Swamp and Queen Elizabeth National Park.
* 🦆 They are highly social and often gather in large flocks.
* 🌾 They feed mainly on seeds, grasses, aquatic plants, and small invertebrates.
* 🎶 Unlike many ducks, they produce a clear whistling sound rather than a typical quack.
