5 DAYS GORILLA TREKKING SAFARI IN UGANDA AND RWANDA

Day 01 : Transfer to Akagera, Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Safari

The tour driver shall pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and depart for Akagera National Park in the east of Rwanda. you shall do a short game drive to spot some animals and enjoy the amazing scenery. Expect to see some impalas, zebras, reedbucks, giraffes, baboons, and black-faced vervet monkeys, Rhinos. After lunch, you shall go out for the boat safari on Lake Ihema and possible sightings include: hippos, crocodiles, monitor lizards, and plenty of water birds.

Day 02 : Full Safari in Akagera and Transfer Back to Kigali

You shall go through a range of habitats from acacia thickets, woodland, bushes, and savanna grassland, providing a variety of animals, wildlife and varied scenery. After the game drive, have a picnic lunch, exit the park, and travel back to Kigali.

Day 03 : Pick Up from Kigali and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The driver guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park located in southwestern Uganda. Drive via undulating and beautiful terraced hills showing a clear picture of the general landscape and altitude of Rwanda and Uganda. You will have a relaxed evening at the lodge as you get prepared for the next day’s adventure.

Day 04 : Do Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Bwindi

After the briefing, embark on the golden monkey tracking. You will take about 4 hours on the Golden monkey tracking experience, inclusive of one hour encounter with them.You will then transfer to the gorilla land of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

Day 05 : Gorilla Tracking and Transfer to Kigali Airport

Enjoy the highlight of your trip, gorilla trekking, which may last from 2 to 6 hours depending on the group you are visiting. We will trek through the rainforest and bamboo-covered slopes.

GORILLA TREKKING IN UGANDA

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is one of the most thrilling wildlife experiences on Earth. It offers a rare opportunity to observe endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat—deep within the misty forests of the country’s national parks.

The Process of Gorilla Trekking in Uganda
1. Choosing the Destination; Uganda is home to more than half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The two main locations for gorilla trekking are:
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
2. Getting a Gorilla Permit; A gorilla permit is required to trek. It must be booked in advance through the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) or a registered tour operator.
3. Preparation and Briefing; On the day of the trek, tourists report to the park headquarters early in the morning for a briefing session. Rangers explain safety guidelines, trekking etiquette, and assign you to a gorilla family based on your fitness level.
4. The Trek; The actual trek can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. It involves hiking through dense forests, steep terrain, and sometimes muddy trails. Trained guides and armed rangers accompany you throughout.
5. Gorilla Encounter; Once the gorilla group is located, trekkers are allowed one hour to observe them. You’ll witness gorillas feeding, grooming, playing, or simply relaxing—just meters away. The experience is humbling and awe-inspiring.
6. Post-Trek; After the trek, you’ll receive a certificate as a token of completing the experience. Many travelers also explore the surrounding communities or engage in cultural visits.
