🦍GORILLA TREKKING RULES — IMPORTANT GUIDE 🦍
For a safe and responsible experience in Uganda & Rwanda

1. Maintain distance
Keep at least 7 meters away from the gorillas at all times (they may approach you, but you should not move closer).

2. Health precautions
Do not trek if you are sick (flu, cough, fever). Gorillas are highly susceptible to human diseases.

3. No flash photography
Photography is allowed, but flash is strictly forbidden.

4. Mask wearing
In many parks, you may be required to wear a face mask when near the gorillas.

5. Silence and calm behavior
Speak softly, avoid sudden movements, and do not make loud noises.

6. No feeding or touching
Never feed, touch, or attempt to interact physically with the gorillas.

7. Limited time with gorillas
You are allowed a maximum of 1 hour with a habituated gorilla family.

8. Follow your ranger guide
Always stay with your guide and follow instructions immediately without question—this is for safety.

9. Group discipline
Usually limited to 8 visitors per gorilla family per day to reduce stress on the animals.

10. Leave no trace
Do not litter; everything you carry in must be carried out.

🦍✨ WHAT IS THE BEST TIME FOR GORILLA TREKKING IN UGANDA OR RWANDA?

One of the most common questions we get!

The good news is: gorilla trekking is possible all year round in both Uganda 🇺🇬 and Rwanda 🇷🇼.

However, the best time is during the dry seasons:
🌿 June – September
🌿 December – February

During these months:
• Trails are less muddy and easier to hike
• Trekking conditions are more comfortable
• Visibility in the forest is often better

That said, the green (rainy) seasons (March–May & October–November) also offer a beautiful experience:
🌧️ Fewer tourists
🌧️ Lush, magical rainforest scenery
🌧️ Sometimes more affordable options

No matter the season, gorilla trekking is always an unforgettable, life-changing experience 🦍💚

GuineaFowl Safaris is happy to help you plan ethical and well-organized gorilla trekking experiences in Uganda and Rwanda.

Feel free to ask us anything! 🙏🏿🌍

We came for gorillas…
But this little guy completely stole the show 🦍😂

A playful baby gorilla in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park showing off zero fear and maximum personality.

Wild, curious, chaotic… and way too cute.

Honestly… I wasn’t emotionally prepared for this 😂💚

🦍 1 hour in Rwanda/Uganda (standard gorilla trekking)

A standard trek (Rwanda or Uganda) gives you 1 hour with a fully habituated gorilla family once you find them.
• The trek itself can vary a lot (anywhere from 1–5+ hours hiking depending on where the gorillas are that day)
• Once you reach them, you get a strictly timed 60 minutes
• The gorillas are fully accustomed to humans, so they are usually relaxed, active, and visible
• The experience is often described as intense, emotional, and “just enough” for most people

👉 Importantly: for many travellers, that 1 hour feels surprisingly complete. You’re close, observing behaviour, and it’s quite immersive.

🥾 Is 1 hour enough?

For most people: yes—and often perfect.
• The hour is highly structured and very close-range
• You’re almost always within a few metres
• It’s emotionally intense, and most people don’t feel “rushed”
• The limiting factor is usually physical fatigue before emotional disappointment

Many travellers actually say the experience is so concentrated that longer wouldn’t necessarily add much beyond a point.

Meet Jacob — the legendary tree-climbing lion of Queen Elizabeth National Park 🦁

At around 10–11 years old, Jacob is one of the most remarkable survivors in the wild. Known as the “lion with nine lives,” his journey is nothing short of extraordinary. After losing his left hind leg to a poacher’s snare in 2020, many thought he wouldn’t survive — but Jacob had other plans.

He has endured buffalo gorings, survived poisoning, and adapted to life on just three legs with incredible resilience. Today, he thrives by hunting in thick vegetation and has even been seen swimming across the crocodile-infested Kazinga Channel alongside his brother — a true testament to his strength and instinct.

If you’re lucky enough to visit, Jacob is often spotted along the channel track or near the Mweya Peninsula — a living symbol of survival against all odds.

Jacob isn’t just a lion. He’s a story of courage, endurance, and the unbreakable spirit of the wild. 🌿

Silent. Still. Focused.

The shoebill waited… then struck with power — but missed.

No panic. No retreat. Just patience… and readiness for the next moment.

In the wild, every miss is part of the hunt.
Not every attempt will succeed.
Not every effort will bring immediate results.
But patience, persistence, and belief in the process always win in the end.

In summary:
When you look at the map, Uganda sits at a strategic crossroads of East and Central Africa, with diverse landscapes—lakes, savannahs, forests, and mountains—making it one of the most varied and exciting destinations on the continent
