AS WE grapple with the concept of sovereignty here on our patch, the United States is throwing parties to celebrate 250 years of sovereign nationhood. Dubbed 'Freedom250', the plan seems to be NOT allowing the US-Israel-Iran conflict to get in the way of anything and, so far, it's working. You know why? WHITHER AFRICA IN THIS US-ISRAEL-IRAN CONFLICT? For full effect she was carrying a breastfeeding infant who clearly shared her pain. As usual, folks jumped straight onto it, condemning “the officials” for being callous, inhumane and inconsiderate....

THE BRITISH HIGH Commissioner to Uganda, Lisa Chesney, said many warm, loving and witty things about her outgoing Political Counsellor Joe Dashley at his farewell reception. Among them was how Joe, during his three-year posting in Uganda, had mastered how to pronounce Ugandan names much better than most others at the High Commission. To emphasize this, she herself tried to pronounce the name Kiryabwire (Justice Geoffrey Kirywabwire of the Court of Appeal was in attendance) and did not score more than 55% at it....

Sometimes We Are Just Encroaching On Ourselves

By Peter Kahindi MONDAY morning, I settled into work and cleared some pending emails, then opened up my WhatsApp and was taken aback by the sheer number of messages on the neighborhood forum. It was unusual, especially for an early Monday morning. So I had to read up on all the messages in that one Group. There were numerous complaints about an infamous five-storey structure in the neighbourhood whose owner thought it was best positioned on a publicly gazetted road....

this irritation and nausea is created by our intellectual laziness

IRRITATION AND NAUSEA are two different sensations, medically speaking, and both generally unwelcome. Sadly for me, I recently paid too much (where "any" tips the scale) attention to one 'news' story that kicked off as irritating then moved into a field of nausea that widened as I slid along a mentally slimy path gathering more information. This involved someone who calls himself "NUP Commander 101" and has been referred to by all media houses as "Engineer Stephen Kaweesa"....
