BOMA

Just for history, most of you say or hear of the word "BOMA" ... E Mubende Ku Boma, Boma Kabale, Boma Mbarara, Boma Mbale, Boma Arua, Boma Soroti, Boma grounds etc.These a the highest points in town where we put our water tanks & the colonists would put their military tanks for defense. It's also where the colonial governor would stay.BOMA ( British Overseas Military Administration)!

It was the most strategically location/position tor purposes of command and communication. Bomas have viewpoint vantages whereby the colonist government sieved viewed watched zoomed out to scrutinize whence the enemy would come from and ultimately defend!

It’s was therefore the command post and administrative location of the colonial government.

In fact Boma was stolen from the Germans! The Germans had used it in Tanganyika at their administrative headquarters at Bagamoyo where they called itDeustshland Overseas Management Authority-DOMA. The British upon defeating the Germans in east Africa in 1945 adapted it by dropping the D with the B to read as Boma!

In Kenya, because of it being prepared for white settlers unlike Uganda which was from the very inception of colonialism as a protectorate, Bomas were were well designed and surveyed for administrative purposes.
