When travelers embrace local cultures and experiences, something truly special happens. Recently, our guests—Catherine White, her husband James Young, and a wonderful group of adventurous travelers from Australia—joined us on a Gorilla Sights Safari to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda.

Along the journey, they encountered the remarkable Batwa people, indigenous to the region. The Batwa, often referred to as the “Keepers of the Forest,” shared their traditions and daily life. Together, they engaged in digging activities, connecting deeply with the land and its people.

This experience wasn’t just about visiting the Gorillas who call Bwindi home, but about understanding the communities that live around these treasured natural habitats. The smiles, laughter, and stories exchanged made this a truly authentic moment.
