4th Cavalry Battalion - Dismounted

4th Cavalry Battalion - Dismounted Combining units for "Battalion Action" at major re-enactments..or anywhere the groups want to gather.

Gents,
Just passing on a little more information that I received from the Union Army Chief of Staff Steve Lundberg.
If any one has fought on the previous Stones River Event hosted by the Atlanta Campaign, this is the same ground plus more acres joined to it. The battlefield itself is around 250 acres, with more acreage for the camps. The land is generally flat to small hill terrain with trees around the battlefield and numerous throughout the camps. The Union Army will camp adjacent to the battlefield.
Put the word out there men, this is shaping up to be one heck of fight!!!
Respectfully
Ray Daley

This looks like a great event, and a perfect place to put a full battalion together. When the North South Alliance did these battles at one event, we had about 124 carbines (and a great time!)

Ray Daley has already talked with Steve L, who was the federal commander at Chickamauga and we are welcome! It says "Franklin" but they will actually do Spring Hill, Franklin, and Nashville, so there will be plenty for cavalry to do. 200+ acres, and NOT big hills!

It's a good location (just East of Nashville, TN) that connects to a lot of southern reenacts too-- let's make it a 'reunion' for 4th BN, and welcome new friends as well.

Found a photo from Shiloh 135.

We had about 250 carbines. Got a good fight in the Dawn battle and a pretty good one at an unplanned “drill that turned into a skirmish” the day before.

I’m sure sometimes folks hear me talk about “hundreds” of dismounted fighting together at an event and think “the old man started on the beer EARLY today.”

I was cleaning out a drawer (see earlier post) and found these from Shiloh 135.

We had about 250 carbines in 5 companies.
Had a good “impromptu battle” in blue on Friday (there are some stories there!) and a great dawn tactical in blue Saturday. Supposed to be gray for the afternoon and Sunday battle. We changed clothes for a big panorama photographer (does anyone have one of those?) and folks took some pix while we were lined up.

The first photo is the best they could get of the whole group and then she moved to the side where she recognized C/7 faces.

The last shot was the heartbreaker of the event. It started raining while we were taking pic and rained HARD and long.

Event name became forever after:
“Mudlow: a River Ran Through it.”

If you have any photos from “Mudlow,” or any of the other 4th BN events, please share them here.

160th Brice's Crossroads looks like THE cavalry event of the year.

We will camp and fight on actual battlefield land, while there is a good museum and battlefield tour nearby.

AND, the "Saloon" we enjoyed so much at Chickamauga will be there too.

Registration is open until May 31. Look up "1st Division Southern Reenactors Association" for the form (we can't post the link.)

If you want to have a good time, Join the cavalry!

This is a blast from the past when the 4th Battalion was at 2nd Raymond Mississippi. We had 120 troopers form the Battalion that weekend. This was my after action report.

This is a good perspective to consider.

We know a dismounted company that fields 12+ people gets used to “fighting independently” at local events and some can be reluctant to give that up to be part of a battalion…but a dismounted group of 70, 80, 100 makes such a bigger splash on the battlefield (and gets included as a “real unit” in scenario planning, versus a “you guys go over there and try not to get in the way.” )

Brice’s Crossroads is a main effort for cavalry from all over, but the event will expect mounted cavalry to be organized into full units (not just independent platoons running around) and they will expect the same from dismounted.

We are looking for opportunities to have ALL the nav (or at least all the dismounted) wear both coats at Brice's Xrds-- gray one day and blue another. But we would prefer working together the whole weekend, not just for one battle.

Let's discuss how to make this work-- and here is a good place to start that.

(And for the record, these The Liberty Rifles folks did the same thing putting a full CS regiment on the field at another battlefield.)

The link for Brice’s registration was taken down by the Facebook police because it contained a picture of the confederate flag. The link is under 1st division . net. If I type it together it automatically puts the link with picture which means it will be taken down again.
Sorry for inconvenience
