Today, we explored the architecture and history of Mesoamerican civilizations. We examined the exterior of the San Angel Inn, which is modeled after a pre-Columbian stepped pyramid (similar to those found at Teotihuacán or Chichén Itzá).

💡 Key Learning Objectives

Architectural Comparison: Identified the difference between a “stepped pyramid” used by the Aztecs/Mayans and the smooth-sided pyramids of Ancient Egypt.

Art History: Observed the intricate stone carvings and “bas-relief” artwork on the facade, representing deities and cultural symbols.
