Okay so I told my coworker the reason I was tearing up at my desk was "a really moving performance review." It was not a performance review. It was fanfiction. On my phone. During lunch.

This is the tax you pay for being fluent in a language most people you love never learned. You get sooo good at translating yourself down to something more digestible. School pickup version. Work standup version. "It's just something light" version for your mother-in-law.

Meanwhile the real you is somewhere at 9:47pm with a cracked spine, completely unmoderated, completely alive.

Babe, if you know exactly which slide this is, tag the friend who's also fluent. She'll get it immediately.

In 1893 a letter from Trondheim to the Norwegian Arctic took five months to arrive in winter.

Five months of waiting at the edge of the world for the ship to finally come through.

That detail lives in my head rent free (and maybe that's why this trip exists, babe, I don't know).

Norway sold out and then you guys went so crazy over it that I went back and fought for two more polar outside double occupancy rooms.

Two rooms. Two people per room. Ashley McLeo on board, the Arctic doing its thing, and a book that is going to make complete sense to you in a way it never could from your couch.

September 17 is the hard cutoff and this time there is no going back for more. Comment NORWAY.

Some stories just refuse to stop being true. Robin Hood, King Arthur, the outlaw in the forest who chose the people over the power. You grew up with these and something in you never fully let them go.

Neither did I, honestly. And I've been building this trip for a while now and I am not okay about it in the best possible way.

Eight days. England. Caitriona Drexler in the actual places that inspired her books.

Comment LEGENDS and I'll send you everything.

may is beautiful and also it has taken something from us.

She didn't. (We wouldn't have either, babe.)
