Unearthing Adventures

Unearthing Adventures Unearthing Adventures are retreat-style gatherings ranging from 4 hours to 4 days. Wherever we are, we are bound to UNEARTH the best and share it with you!

We're 2 gals with a passion for discovery, creating, traveling, good times and of course, great food & drink! We love to support local businesses & people who, like us, want to share their passions with others.

Our next adventure will be at the hottest local distillery, so hold on to your hats if you love a good vodka or whiskey cocktail! (But if booze ain't your thing, there's lots of mocktails to choose from, too-ask Amber about the blueberry lemonade!).

Get ready to explore a one-of-a-kind atmosphere with drinks, snacks and a low-key craft!

Save the date: July 16th!

We met one of the featured artists at the Amarillo Museum of Art during our last adventure! When asked if he'd take a photo with our group, he said yes! AND he even suggested how and where we should pose. Classic artist with a classic eye for design.

What makes YOU feel like it's officially summer?

Today is the longest day and shortest night of the year-Happy Summer!

We're celebrating by sharing a simple summer fruit salad that we served at a previous event: Our favorite fruit + fresh mint. Yes, it can be that simple and still be delicious!

Just in time for International Picnic Day! Our last event had us chatting and snacking under a gorgeous tree at the college after our museum tour. We had fans to keep us cool, too, even though the day ended up being quite pleasant!

We like to take group photos at our events. Del had a very specific idea in mind for our trip to the museum. Lol, what do you think? Museum of Art (Also, is anyone else inspired by Sloan's white jacket?)

We realized after our last event that LOTS of local people have never been to our art museum. And of the ones who HAVE, most of them only because they attended an office party or fundraiser (where they ate and drank but never got to walk around to all the floors and check the place out!)

After seeing this plaque in the Amarillo Museum of Art's library, we looked into the Amarillo Art Alliance. Behind every exhibition opening, lecture, fundraiser and educational program is a dedicated group of volunteers of the alliance. Since 1972 (when the museum opened), the AMoA Alliance has worked alongside the museum to bring art to the Texas Panhandle.

This is our urging: Go to the museum! It's donation-based, so drop a few bucks in the bucket and enjoy the high-end art our city has to offer. It's a wonderful way to spend the afternoon!

One of the highlights of our event at Amarillo Museum Art was meeting one of the featured artists, Ron Cooper. Using vertical acrylic constructions painted with automotive paint, his pieces seemed to shift and transform depending on where you stood. They made for intereresting shadows on the wall and light reflections.

Something Cooper pointed out to us as we talked with him was how well the verticle lines of his sculptures complimented Ed Ruscha's horizontal lithographs and paintings.

It's always inspiring to hear what's going on inside an artist's head!

How has it been TWO YEARS since we started this thing called UNEARTHING ADVENTURES?! We've totally enjoyed the events we've created so far and can't wait to invite you to more! Last week's event offered a fascinating contrast between past and present. Walking through displays of classic cars (both finely finished and still a bit rusty!) while surrounded by contemporary graphic artwork created an unexpected dialogue about design.

We love exposing folks to art in new ways. While all of our UNEARTHING ADVENTURES events have creativity thrown into the mix, it's not always fine art or crafts. This last time the cars were an unexpected surprise sprinkled into the day with 3-D acrylic sculptures, photography, lithographs and ancient Asian art!
