LOCAL PILOT ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR AN “AROUND THE WORLD FLIGHT”

Long time Franklin county resident John R Bone who is a pilot and flight instructor at Forgotten Coast Flyers located at the Apalachicola Regional-Cleve Randolph Field has announced plans to fly his single engine Cirrus SR22 solo around the world. Departing from Apalachicola on Sunday, October 29th, Captain Bone will fly westward for 23

,382 miles, making 15 stops, visiting 11 countries and returning to Apalachicola in 4 to 6 weeks. The longest leg will be from Merced, California to Maui, Hawaii which takes over 14 hours. Additional fuel tanks will be installed in California to extend the range of the aircraft. Captain Bone will be flying as a member of the National Aeronautics Association of Washington, DC and the flight will be conducted in accordance with the sporting requirements set forth by the Federation Aeronautique International of Lausanne, Switzerland for solo circumnavigations. Captain Bone is also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the National Association of Flight Instructors, the Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association and the Airline Pilots Association He flew for Delta Airlines for 37 years and retired in Jan. 2016.
