I have cancer. Colon Cancer. Stage 3.
I could tell you all the stats on my tumor - grade, size, etc. but for now it's important to tell you this.
I’m 55. I have no family history of colon cancer or any other cancer for that matter. I live a healthy lifestyle. I’ve never smoked and because of a family history of addiction I do not drink excessively. I exercise all the time. And I had no symptoms.
I had my first colonoscopy at 50. Thankfully they found a tiny polyp so I needed to be screened every five years.
5 years came and I diligently scheduled my colonoscopy.
You could have knocked me over after the procedure when my surgeon said “we found a mass. I was lucky to find it because it’s in an area that’s in a large bend. I didn’t see it the first pass through because we don’t have side view mirrors but I was lucky to see it on the way out. It’s small but if I’m a betting man it’s malignant”. Literally could have knocked me over. And he was right. It was cancer.
So that’s how it started in January.
Next up - blood tests and a CT Scan.
CEA Blood Tests came back within normal range.
CT Scan was clear.
Next up - surgery to remove the mass (thankfully relatively small at 2.9 cm).
Surgery was 2-2-22 with a 4 night hospital stay at Northside Forsyth.
Surgery went extremely well but 1 lymph node out of 26 tested positive and that means chemo.
I have 2 appointments this week with 2 difference oncologists to get 2 opinions.
I’m scared, I’m tired, I’m ready to start fighting this and I could use your prayers but I really want to encourage you to go ahead and schedule your colonoscopy.

After a year and a half it just doesn’t get better than this. Beautiful sunrise and beautiful Ship! Can’t believe we were lucky enough to be one of the first cruises back! The crew, the ship, the experience, the food, the safety measures, everything - just everything - was top notch and exactly what we knew would deliver. There’s a reason was the first ship to sail from North America and a reason we sailed with them as our first cruise back.
Already missing the so I’ll be cruising later this month!!!!
