Remember Restaurant Ct.? There was a time when this Tunnel Road development was supposed to become Asheville's next great dining destination. LongHorn Steakhouse and Cheeseburger in Paradise kicked things off, TV talk, radio spots everywhere, and big dreams were in the air. But as downtown Asheville rose, Restaurant Ct. quietly faded into the background.

Today, apartments are moving in, LongHorn stands mostly alone, and many are left wondering… what happened, and could this area someday become the restaurant hub it was always meant to be?

Well folks, it looks like something is finally happening down here on the last empty corner of South Tunnel Road!

This area was hit hard nearly two years ago during our historic storm, and for a long time it felt like nothing was moving. But today? Survey crews are out, corners are being marked, and it looks like things may finally be heading toward a closing on that property.

Now, we're not confirming any rumors… but let's just say a few folks have been talking, and names like 7 Brew and Whataburger keep coming up.

Whatever ends up here, this corner sure could use some new life and a little action again.

We'll keep watching and keep y'all updated!

There is finally some visible activity at Asheville Mall, with Escapology building out its new location beside the main entrance in the former McAlister's Deli space. Seeing new life come to the property raises an interesting question: what does the future of Asheville Mall look like?

With many vacant storefronts and shopping habits changing, perhaps the answer is not simply more retail, but more experiences. Years ago, there were reports that Simon Property Group might take over the mall, possibly again, but that deal apparently never happened. Does anyone know more about that story?

Imagine Asheville Mall becoming an entertainment hub for Western North Carolina. With Buncombe County already moving in on one end, what if we saw something like a new Fun Depot inside? Add a movie theater, bring the bowling alley back into the mall environment, create a venue for boxing, MMA, and wrestling events, and perhaps even a dedicated 21+ section.

For those who remember the good old days, imagine the spirit of places like Cinjades, Magnolia's, Mack Kells, and other faves of the past finding a new home and bringing back some of that energy and nightlife many people miss.

Malls across America are changing. Maybe the future of Asheville Mall isn't trying to recreate what it once was, but becoming something entirely new while honoring the places and memories that made it special.

Downtown Asheville Deliciousness!

We've been fortunate enough to eat our way through most of the Latin restaurants in downtown Asheville—from casual hidden gems to upscale dining experiences—and we're telling you right now...

El Tesoro ( on Instagram) is absolutely at the top of our list.

📍 Right on Wall Street in the heart of downtown Asheville, this place delivers on every level.

The food?

Outstanding.

The presentation?

Beautiful.

The taste?

Absolutely incredible.

And let's talk about the staff for a minute. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. The kind of hospitality that makes you want to stay awhile and order another round.

Speaking of another round...

🍹 That Margarita Flight!

Yes... I drank ALL of them. 😂

And every single one was delicious. Different flavors, different personalities, and honestly one of the most fun drink experiences we've had downtown. If you visit El Tesoro, do yourself a favor and order the flight.

The ceviche was fresh, clean, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Just one of those dishes where every bite reminds you why simple ingredients done right are hard to beat.

And the steak, shrimp, chicken... everything that hit the table was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor.

If you're looking for a great meal in downtown Asheville, a fun atmosphere, amazing cocktails, and a spot that consistently delivers, El Tesoro needs to be on your list.
