It took me about an hour of casting and many fly changes to finally pull one out of this small lake

The difference between a wild brown trout (1st image) and stocked brown trout (2nd image) are evident in these photos. The wild brown will have more vivid yellows on its bottom and fins, along with more vivid red spots along its body. I caught both of these out of the same river yesterday which is hatchery supported but it also has a naturally reproducing population of brown trout. Also caught a stocked rainbow and wild brookie for the slam 🙌🏻

It was great to get out with two fellow photographers AND fly fishermen! First time meeting both JP and James but with so much in common there was much to chat about on this beautiful spring day. The fish were biting, too! Doesn’t get much better than a day like today.

The patterns on brook trout are just amazing. This juvenile in particular had such amazing colors and contrast. Never gets old.

Yesterday was a dream! 33 wild trout in about 4 hours of fishing. Looking forward to more days like that.
