COPENHAGEN CREATIVITY. When the suggests a dinner choice, how can I resist? This one’s a tiny 25-seater with icky while tile walls probably inherited from the butcher shop that used to be in that space. Foraging-fresh food is the highlight. The service was good except for one insultingly dismissive waiter. The foods here: trout rolled in kohlrabi; tuna carpaccio with caper leaves and bergamot; new onions in a frothy Comté cheese sauce; pork with a laksa (no comprendo; like curry laksa?) bisque; and a warm dish of romaine with anchovies, olives and pistachios. The IDs might be out of order.

JUST DUCKY. Incredible, beyond-perfect duck plus risotto, asparagus soup and raw tuna. It’s surely not Danish but it is phenomenal.

SWEDISH STAPLES. We closed out our Stockholm immersion with an uber-classic Swedish dinner in the city’s old town. I should have used a light, yes, but check out these tasty if poorly photographed classics: dill with caviar (not the fancy kind) and crème fraiche; – Old Man’s Mess, a scrumptious herring ring on crispbread; Swedish meatballs; and mushrooms on toast, pictured twice. I like this stuff! They’re at a quirky small restaurant called House of Smorgasbord.

BETTER THAN A PUB SUB. These mini-shrimp sandwiches beckon from lunch counters all over Stockholm. Turns out the seafood is on a hearty bread with frothy fresh dill and hard-boiled eggs. Now *that’s* the way to lunch.

FUN WITH FUNGI. In Sweden, they put on brioche French toast and enhance it with vasterbotten cheese. It doesn’t get better than this.

SWEDISH MEATBALLS, not at IKEA! Just an everyday dish at the friendly, casual Stockholm neighborhood restaurant Kasten Bistro av Jim&Jacob. A pork chop too. Tapered candles, great wines by the glass.
