I am about to board a river cruise on the Danube and I could not be more excited. But before I go, I want to share the three biggest mistakes I see people make when considering a river cruise.

Mistake 1: Comparing it to an ocean cruise.
A river cruise is an entirely different experience. Smaller ship, more intimate, port every single day. If you are expecting a floating resort with multiple restaurants and a casino, you will be surprised. If you are expecting immersive, curated, and deeply personal travel, you will be in heaven.

Mistake 2: Booking based on price alone.
River cruise lines vary enormously in quality. The difference between a budget line and a luxury line shows up in every detail, from cabin size to included excursions to the quality of the food and wine. I am going specifically to evaluate what Riverside Luxury Cruises delivers so I can give my clients an honest, firsthand answer.

Mistake 3: Booking it for the wrong traveler.
River cruising is not for everyone and I think that honesty builds more trust than a sales pitch. If you need high energy nightlife and endless variety, this is probably not your trip. If you want to slow down, see Europe intimately, and travel with people who value the same things you do, it might be the best trip of your life.
