Tickled pink to invite you to join our Co-Founder Amanda Wittstrom Higgins as she goes live with Santa Ynez Winemaker and Viticulturalist, Alecia Moore of Two Wolves Winery to talk wine stories and learn more about their passionate outlook on work and life.

Passionate, dedicated, and not afraid to push the envelope, Alecia brings an enthusiastic and learning spirit to the wine industry. She gathers inspiration from tasting people’s wines, hearing their stories and, most poignantly, from good old hard work of working the land. Her favorite thing to do on the vineyard is pruning. 🌱 So open a bottle of wine and join us tomorrow at 4 pm PST for a fun time of sharing stories of winemaking, the land and the people who put a lot of hard work and love into each bottle.

“WINE SPEAK” WOWS IN YEAR THREE
Paso Robles AVA Plays Host to Successful Wine Industry Event
Atascadero, CA—Wine Speak—a wine industry summit geared toward community and collaboration—successfully wrapped up its third annual edition, hosting more than 750 attendees and selling out all special events. Held on January 14-16 amid the backdrop of the Paso Robles wine country, Wine Speak featured an all-star cast of winemakers, master sommeliers and industry leaders from around the world.
Longtime Napa Valley vintner and featured Wine Speak panelist Bruce Neyers remarked afterward, “It was without doubt one of the single best wine events I have attended in my career, both in content and in takeaway.”
Added legendary master sommelier Madeline Triffon, “Coming to Wine Speak was a sweet, fulfilling surprise on so many fronts. It was a well-organized symposium driven by passion and heart as well as the community’s open fellowship.”

Lionel Faury joined us for a moving discussion relating to “The Old World” hailing from the Northern Rhone of France. Lionel spoke of his families winery and what it was like to take the reins of this historic project. A stirring moment was when he was asked what mark he hoped to make? He shyly said, “My father said to make it better than he left it.” The audience was deeply moved the exceptional wines as well as the charm of this young Frenchmen and his broken english.

Matt Kettmann editor of Wine Enthusiast said, “Faury opened our eyes to what viognier is supposed to taste like — honeyed and lush yet mineral and fresh — and did the same for syrah, showing a cote rotie loaded with crisp fruit, peppery spices, and a lively structure.” Matthew Dulle, Beverage Director of Lazy Bear (and part of our Somm Team) said, “The Faury wines will ALWAYS have a place on any list I create, exceptional values and beautiful expressions of the region.”

“A Journalists Perspective” in this session Wine Enthusiast editor, Matt Kettmann and Somm Journal editor at large, Randy Caparoso led a dynamic discussion touching on the concept of rating wines, the methodology of pairing wines with food, the future of wine journalism and what moves them most. An insightful panel about journalism in our industry and a sneak peak into a world that to most seems to be mysterious.

We are truly grateful for their passion and constant curiosity to uncover and champion producers and wines lesser known. We thank them for sharing their wisdom today.

The wine Yoda, Bruce Neyers, shares his perspective of a lifetime in wine. Starting in the 70’s with Joseph Phelps, then Kermit Lynch, and now solely focused on he and his wife Barbara’s brand Neyers Winery.

This session captivated the audience with stories of walking vineyards in France and working with some of the most iconic personalities in the world.

Today they shared the beautiful Contra Costa, Carignan which he recommended to pair with a French Cassoulet (a rich, slow-cooked casserole containing meat (typically pork sausages, goose, duck and sometimes mutton), pork skin (couennes) and white beans originating in southern France.

Next we tasted the Russian River 2017 Pinot Noir which according to Barbara pairs beautifully with grilled quail.

“But the most moving part of this session” according to Sommelier and attendee Ariana Tsuchiya from the Royal Hawaiian of Oahu, “was the deep love and passion both Bruce and Barbara share for one another and the incredible partnership they have forged over 53 years of marriage. It was obvious that they share the same love and respect for their vineyards and approach to winemaking. Each wine depicted the purity of place and varietal expression.”

This session dove deep into Wine Speaks host Region featuring four distinct producer: Jason Haas of Tablas Creek , Jordan Fiorentini of Epoch Wine Estates , Steve Peck of J.Lohr Vineyards & Wines and Mike Sinor of Ancient Peaks Winery all moderated by co founder Amanda Wittstrom Higgins. “The sense of community, spirit of innovation and humility are hallmarks of this region, I hope it never changes” says Chuck Furuya MS and co founder. 📸
