Okay… here’s my Vegas takeaway ✈️🎰
As a travel agent, I notice things a little differently—little details that I know my clients would want to know before heading somewhere new. So here we go…
First, let me say this: when my hubby asked me to go to Vegas with him for a conference, I was not exactly excited. Vegas has never been on my “must visit” list. But I went because he asked, I needed some downtime after a super busy ministry season, and honestly… I was looking forward to some one-on-one time with him ❤️
Now—first impressions and things I wish I knew ahead of time:
1. The WIND. Y’all… Vegas is windy. I don’t know if it’s like that all the time, but the week we were there? Wild. Strong gusts, things blowing over, hair whipping everywhere. Our Lyft driver even said when it rains, it’s worse—wind + rain. I can only imagine 😳
2. The water 😬
Not my favorite. A lot of places had a very chemical taste. I looked it up, and it likely has to do with how the water is sourced and filtered. We ended up buying bottled water most of the time. BUT—plot twist—the airport restaurant had amazing water. We sat there chugging lemon water like we had been stranded in the desert 😂
3. Nothing is as close as it looks
This one got me. You’ll see a hotel and think, “Oh that’s right there!” …and then you start walking. Vegas is set up with lots of winding paths, bridges, tunnels, and indirect entrances. And yes—many of those routes are designed to take you right through the casino. Smart on their part!
4. You’ll walk through casinos… a lot
To get to restaurants, shops, pretty much anything. And even though the spaces are huge, if you’re sensitive to smoke, you’ll notice it.
5. Transportation adds up fast
Uber and Lyft were pricier than I expected. The monorail is fun, but it doesn’t go everywhere. Honestly, the bus system is the best bang for your buck. I’d definitely recommend grabbing a multi-day pass.
Next post: all the things I actually LOVED about Vegas… because there were definitely some things that had me in awe!
