Mary Remmes Life Coach

Mary Remmes Life Coach Caring for aging parents doesn’t mean you have to put your life on hold. I am a life coach for women who are caring for an aging parent/partner.

I'm Mary Remmes, and I help women caring for their elderly parents find relief from the pressure of needing to do enough and do it right. I help them manage their mindset and expectations around the uncertainty they face. Working with me allows them to experience the process of caring for an aging parent in a way that cultivates joy and leaves them with no regrets at the end.

Are you a planner?
Do you try to plan for every possible scenario that might occur.
I see this happen and I want to suggest that there might be a better way.
Tell me what you think.
Can you get comfortable with a belief that you’ll figure it out?

I care deeply about people being exquisitely kind to themselves in the moments when their life is hard.

It’s during the tough stuff that we need to double down on compassion and grace….for ourselves.
❤️🙏

I know how hard it is to navigate your life with an aging parent.
No matter what’s happening with your elderly parent(s), I know how you can make it better ….for YOU!

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Art Wood & Ryan Carroll of https://www.homehandled.com/
They offer a fantastic maintenance service to seniors living in their own homes, that allows seniors and their adult children, peace of mind knowing that the home is maintained.
Given the freezing temps we had in Atlanta last week, a home maintenance plan and service is vital to the safety and well-being of seniors living alone!

HomeHandled will be sponsoring our March 8, 2023 ACAP Atlanta program. Be sure to attend our program on "Services in your own backyard" and meet Art & Ryan!

We had a wonderful meeting today with Mary Remmes of ACAP Atlanta today. If you aren't aware...ACAP is a non-profit that provides resources for adult children of aging parents. They formed the chapter this year and will be rolling out all kind of wonderful events beginning in Feb 2023. HomeHandled has agreed to be the sponsor of the March meeting about exploring services for our aging parents.

My dad’s 93rd birthday was yesterday
He died the week of spring break, my senior year of college in 1986.
He was a month short of 57 years when he died

I didn’t have a close relationship with him and as a young, self-centered adult, I didn’t try understand him.

Life was hard for him; he battled alcoholism his entire adult life.

What I’ve come to realize as an adult is that we’re all doing the best that we can.
Some days our best isn’t very good, but it’s our best and that’s what matters.

This is truly the most empowering thought I use on a daily basis - - we are all doing the best that we can.
It’s a thought that creates acceptance and connection.
Every person needs acceptance and connection.

Like all humans, my dad did the best that he could. His best often looked like a tender heart and helping out the underdog in any given situation.

I have no doubt that he loved me and my 5 siblings. And I believe he’d be very proud of us, in all of our human struggles and triumphs.

Is there anyone in your life that you struggle to understand?
Try on the thought, "they're doing the best that they can" and see if it feels better for you.

Afternoon napping 😴
And
Ready to play at a moments notice, always! 🎾

Do you have someone to turn to when you just need to vent about the challenges that come with aging parents? That friend who’s available to talk at a moments notice?
It’s important to find that someone.

Do you have someone who can help you see clearly what’s happening in your life with an aging parent.
A coach who can show you how you’re either helping or hurting your experience?

Also important.

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π.
Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant figures of π.
It was founded in 1988 by Larry Shaw, an employee of an employee of the Exploratorium.

I took a virtual class yesterday with The Kitchen Natural & learned a new technique for rolling out pie dough.
The net result was a fun experience for me and two pies in my fridge to celebrate Pi Day.
I’ll be sharing a slice with my friend, Artsie, who’s 90 years old and tells me often of her love of pecan pie.

Do you bake pies? 🥧
Did your mom or your grandma teach you to make pie crust?
That feels like a lesson-from-grandma thing to me 👵🏻
