On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received word of their freedom. Juneteenth marks that moment—a powerful reminder that freedom is not given, it’s fought for and claimed.

But the story of freedom doesn’t begin—or end—in America.

Many of our ancestors’ stories began on the shores of West Africa:
📍 Ghana’s Cape Coast & Elmina Castles—where countless enslaved Africans took their last steps on African soil.
📍 Assin Manso Slave River—a sacred place of remembrance and reflection.
📍 W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Center in Accra—where Pan-African dreams took root.
