Alaska Week: Day 5️⃣
🏔️ Let's talk about the real stars of an Alaskan Disney Cruise... the PORTS! 🚢💙
As I mentioned a previous post, Disney Cruise Line currently has two ships sailing to Alaska: the Disney Dream and the Disney Wonder. While their itineraries are very similar, there are a few differences.
🛳️ Disney Dream
❄️ Dawes Glacier
🚂 Skagway
🐋 Juneau OR Icy Strait Point (depending on the sailing)
🐟 Ketchikan
🛳️ Disney Wonder
❄️ Dawes Glacier
🚂 Skagway
🐋 Juneau
🐟 Ketchikan
🦅 Sitka (on select itineraries)
No matter which itinerary you choose, you'll experience jaw-dropping glaciers, historic Gold Rush towns, incredible wildlife, and scenery that doesn't even look real.
On some Caribbean cruises (yes... I'm looking at you, Nassau 😅), I don't mind recommending a relaxing ship day. Alaska is completely different. Every port has something unique to offer, and I truly think you'll regret staying onboard.
There are dozens of amazing Port Adventures to choose from, including whale watching, helicopter tours, dog sledding, glacier hikes, ziplining, bear viewing, and more. Here are the excursions my family chose—and we'd happily do them again!
🚂 Skagway: White Pass Railway
We took the historic train ride through the mountains, and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Waterfalls, snow-capped peaks, deep valleys... every turn brought another incredible view.
The excursion lasts close to three hours, and you stay on the train the entire time. My son loved it, and my daughter enjoyed it too (especially after making a friend onboard!), but younger kids who like to stay busy may get a little restless toward the end. For us, though, it was a wonderful opportunity to slow down, relax, and soak in Alaska's beauty.
✈️ Juneau: 5-Glacier Seaplane Exploration
Without a doubt, this was our favorite excursion of the entire cruise.
Flying in a seaplane over the Tongass National Forest and the Juneau Icefield was an experience I'll never forget. We saw waterfalls, lush rainforest, brilliant blue glacial pools, and five spectacular glaciers from above.
Pictures simply don't do it justice. It was one of those moments where everyone on the plane was just staring out the window in complete awe.
🐟 Ketchikan: Exploring on Our Own
Instead of booking an excursion, we spent the day wandering through town, and it ended up being one of our favorite afternoons.
Known as the Salmon Capital of the World, Ketchikan is full of charm. We strolled along colorful Creek Street, browsed local shops, and were lucky enough to spot a bald eagle while we explored. During salmon season, you can even watch salmon swimming upstream right through town!
One of the things I love most about Alaska is that every port feels completely different. Each stop has its own personality, its own adventures, and its own unforgettable views.
💙 If Alaska has been on your bucket list, I'd love to help you make it happen. Whether you're deciding between the Disney Dream and Disney Wonder or trying to choose the perfect excursions, I'm happy to help every step of the way.
